I love it when some drivers try and pass on the 3 lane uphill here in town. Now every other vehicle is bottlenecked into the left lane while the idiot tries to pass. Then OMG wow they're both side by side at the traffic light at the top of the hill. Real big time saver there bud! **slow clap**
Lepton1, Chewy352 and Dave_in_AZ Thank this. -
Pay me by the mile, and I'm not going to sit behind a slower truck.
Pay me by the hour, and I won't worry about it.tlalokay, Toomanybikes, Bob Dobalina and 4 others Thank this. -
If the truck is ungoverned or set at 75 I don't see the issue here.
-
It's only an issue for the 58-62mph mega logjam, just something we all have to deal with.

Early in this thread someone posted a comment that they didn't see anything wrong with taking five minutes to complete a pass. Several people thanked that post. Another posted that he doesn't see any reason why he should have to slow down to help another driver complete a pass. Both comments IMHO show a complete lack of awareness of what your number one job is on the road. YOUR JOB IS TO MAINTAIN SPACE AND FLOW OF TRAFFIC.
Once you create a rolling roadblock by attempting a slow pass OR driving cluelessly and blocking someone's attempt to pass by not slowing or rising to the level of idiocy by speeding up, you are creating a highway speed traffic jam...
...and YOU are in the thick of it. Bumper to bumper vehicles all around YOU because you can't break suction and pull your head out of your ###? REALLY?
When you get behind the wheel, do your ####ing job. Is your "job" to create hazards on the road and then stay as close as possible to the hazard? Create space at all times.BUMBACLADWAR, Dave_in_AZ, Chewy352 and 2 others Thank this. -
And yeah, I do whatever I can to manipulate the driver behind me into following the law. These idiots who want to pass on double-solid lines and subject me to danger--they're going to be messed with. Although it's not messing with them in a dangerous way. It is more like taking steps to prevent them from engaging in something that is dangerous. After you've done about 500,000 safe miles in a tractor-trailer, you learn how drivers behave, and you learn little tricks to keep them in line and keep them doing what you want. It's no different than blocking off a lane when you're making a right-hand turn so these Class C drivers don't drive into the lane your trailer is swinging into.
"Downshift and hit the jake." Can you elaborate on your problems with this? It's a pretty common method of slowing down without using the service brakes, driver. That results in a steady, predictable and deliberate deceleration. But I can tell you are very upset with all of this, so let me find the name and address and phone number, and social security number, of the dude who taught me how to drive. You can go take this up with him personally, at 4AM at his personal residence.
