Lol. I think reporting them would certainly be the lesser of two evils there. But I do understand your frustration with people who act that way.

The radar system on my truck will actually display the speed the vehicle in front of me is going. At least till they are out of range. I've seen lots of vehicles doing 15 over. Of course, there is no way to record that, except for me illegally using my cell phone to snap a picture of my radar display screen. Also, I don't know if my radar is accurate enough for it to stand up in court, but it seems pretty close.

I agree with both of these statements.

There are times when I am tempted to, but I never do any more.

When the thought comes to mind, just focus on keeping your own unit safe.

Well, if I'm doing the posted 45 mph in a construction zone and you blow my doors off, really don't need a radar gun, now do I?

Not that I'd bother to call that one in. I gave up trying to fix the city of Chicago long ago.

I had a car in Wisconsin pass me once. Him tipping the Coors can up to his mouth with only three cans from the six pack left laying on his passenger seat was a clue. He wasn't speeding, as he passed me pretty slow. Pretty easy to see, in that case anyway. And yeah, I made the call.

This thread is a perfect example of the bi polar nature of this site. Dozens of threads on following the rules, cant make it legal? Then don't run. Cant make the time? Tell em your not gonna drive tierd ect.. learn how to merge, stay outta the hammer if your not passing ect.. and on and on...

    Here?

Your idea of throwing a "rig under the bus" assumes that there's some kind of vendetta, that whoever tries to get a dangerous driver off the road is trying to screw that driver over. To what end? What does the reporting driver gain from it, other than knowing the road is a little safer, at least for the time being.
"if they're not safe enough by my standards turn them in." There is a minimum standard of safety, believe it or not. If a driver is weaving from shoulder to shoulder, and in fact other vehicles have swerved to avoid being hit, well, I guess you wouldn't call that in, because that would be applying a standard, and someone else might think you were being "judgemental". Or maybe we just ought to scrap the idea of minimum safety standards, because there will always be someone who objects to them. And it's absolutely impossible that anyone could use reason to determine whether any given situation is dangerous or not.

So you called the police on a guy because he had consumed less than 3 beers?
