The best I can remember eons ago in drivers ed, it was stressed to stay in the right lane except for passing and I don't know that it was even called a truckers passing lane, it was for everyone to use as a passing lane. While I agree that it is best to move over to the middle lane when there are on and off ramps and I do this in my car, it is a courtesy to let traffic in on the road to me, but this doesn't mean a person has to move to the middle and sit there forever, esp if they are impeding traffic by going too slow. Traffic is a lot heavier now than it was 40yrs ago, most roads are over burdened by traffic and it seems like stupidity reigns. Cars think it is ok to pass you on the right now, something that was a no-no in the past.

I drive in the middle lane on two lane highways. That's how much I love the middle lane.

.... was that you yesterday eastbound on I-40 from Memphis to Nashville? :D

Actually, I saw several trucks yesterday that were employing this tactic. Must have been a tremendous fear of going "over the edge"... :D

I've been driving professionally for right about 5yrs now. I'm no veteran, yet I'm no rookie either... I drive a governed truck and have my entire career to this point. I drive the right lane unless I plan to pass or allow a merging vehicle onto the highway. The key for me in doing this, I have to keep my head on a swivel and look past the hood ornament thru the windshield. Identify well ahead of time and react accordingly... it's rather simple. That is all...

They do that in Mexico. Trucks and buses will run down the center of the road on really narrow stretches whether it be 2 lane or 4 lane.

Not gonna read this whole thread. I use middle lane especially where right lane has been so hammered by truck traffic that has suspension-damaging pot holes that tend to wake me up. There are laws about this in many states. If someone wants to go ahead and pass you on right, it's on them. If they come up behind you and you fail to move over and let them by, it's on you.

If you don't get out of the way, you're a rolling road block. Get out of the way. Slower traffic, merge right, please.

Road courtesy is a wonderful thing.

    Occasionally it happens.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.
