Off Duty Driving is a line that's only available for Owner Operators or Fleece Purchase Operators. Company drivers have no such luxury.

Your 14 ran out with e-logs also. Off duty driving will keep it from screaming at you but is not legal and would be easily discovered under the scrutiny that would come if involved in a fatal crash.

Thanks for making my point. An e-log that looks legal is no different than a paper one that looks legal. Either will do fine at the scale house and neither will fare well in court.

Wrong. I have worked for two companies with elogs as a company driver and both had "Personal Conveyance" as an option.

I'm not sure how this thread go to this point but "personal conveyance" can only be used without a load. The OP stated you are under a load 20 miles out. You couldn't use personal conveyance for that.

    Lepton1 Thanks this.

    listen up you newb's !

you are in the time management business, so figure out how to do it right. First of all you need to plan ahead somewhat, if you know you are going to be cutting it close you need to be contacting your dispatch or the customer or whoever needs to be made aware. You don't wait until you are 1/2 hour from the place and out of hours, got it ?

The second thing you need to do is if your dispatch gives you any problems about it, contact the safety department and ask them how to proceed. If you get the safety department involved they will shut up the dispatcher pretty quickly. And if the safety department doesn't trump the dispatcher you are working for the wrong company.

recap... 1. communicate potential HOS problems beforehand, not when you run out of time. 2. get safety department involved if there is any question of whether you really have to follow HOS or not. you do, it's the law.

I'd say the recent change back to the old 34 hour reset is a good example of regulations getting "easier".

It also shows the FMCSA doesn't have as many friends in low places that it once did.

10speed, wore out, Joetro and 3 others Thank this.
