I drop and hook in my company terminals for which I am very well compensated. I wouldn't accept a tip from them, unless it's cookies or a burger.
I left a dollar yesterday because I feel bad for the employees that work at the POS outfit called pilot/flying j But In the grand scheme of things a dollar is just a dollar but I'm sure they appreciate it
And for those who are bemoaning, "no one ever has given me anything so I don't give to anyone"...that could be your problem. I've received thanks, green peppers, dog treats, a whole box of assorted pastries and sandwiches and many times some real friendly conversation--that sometimes has turned into letting a few things slide(being Uber late for an appointment, slight damaged goods....once I just grazed a mailbox with only the handle being taken off...I also helped the receiver with the straps needed to load/unload the bundles--you know what, no mention ever of the mailbox handle). And I agree with the commenter who supposed that the real skinflints on here are likely some of the nasties we all end up bearing out here on the road--I know that the few times I've let the stress of this job, mixed with some of the stresses in my personal life, translate to my relationship with the folks I'm in contact with out here on the job--totally influences my experiences with them...and woe is me if I'm not only late but also there may be some damaged freight. It all boils down to that old adage, " treat others like you want to be treated"
I want to be tipped, and until I'm tipped every where I go, I'll just tip my servers and bartenders and a good barber. And I'll continue to scoff at the tip jars at a deli or Starbucks.
I worked at a Starbucks in college and you wouldn't believe how much #### you get from people there, on the other hand the regulars were pretty darn awesome, often times bringing in birthday gifts, Christmas presents, etc... and always tipped really well. Made friends with a lot of officers as they always got drinks from me for free. Same for the good looking girls. Starbucks has this awesome button on the screen that makes everything free no questions asked and I used that button liberally for the hotties. That button was the best wingman a kid could ask for. But then I got yelled at for 15 minutes because our store ran out of caramel drizzle once. My co-workers would always praise my ability to stay calm with irate customers, but it was $8/hour and I didn't give a #### lol
Waitresses get paid by the hour though. Furthermore they get minimum wage if they don't make enough money in tips. Yet when I worked for minimum wage at arbys I never got one single tip. So why should I tip them. I am very anti tipping unless they go above and beyond. Of course they should get paid fairly.
In most restaurants a portion of the meal gets taken out of the waitresses tip and given to the cook/chef regardless of whether or not the waitress actually got a tip or not. So basically if you don't tip the waitress just paid out of her pocket to serve you. It's obvious you've never worked in a restaurant haha, I never have but I've dated a few girls who have and they get screwed by the game more than drivers do as far as pay. You really should tip.
Not only that, but state governments tax tips on credit cards. I always ask because I'll give cash instead of a cc so they can pocket the cash instead of having to report it to the govt
I don't tip starbucks. And a haircut is $12, I always give a $20. Now that Ive been taking Dad with me she gets $35 for both.
