I sometimes leave a tip. I keep reading about how its a crappy job etc. I was raised that if you take a job you do your very best. I've had some pretty bad jobs in my life but I always did the best I could, when I was done I wouldn't stand around I would pick up a broom and start sweeping, never idle always doing something so I wouldn't get fired. I knew what the pay was when I started. So when I found a better paying job I always got good reccomendations from the last job. So my thought is they have a job to do so do it the best you can and not be lazy. The mentality of some of these folks gets me sometimes.

I will tip the shower attendant, if the standard is up to par! -

Dude, I never even thought about it! I will definitely think about it now.

No tips from me. They are paid by the hour.

Waitresses are usually paid a very small (way less then minimum wage) hourly wage, because they receive the majority of their pay from tips. But everyone else in the service industry are paid at least minimum wage, or more. I used to clean hotel rooms and although people say you should tip your cleaning lady, I never saw $1. To tip the guy cleaning your shower stall - good question. I never thought about it until one day a guy came up to me, I had just taken my shower and was waiting for my husband in the Arbys, he came up to me and thanked me for the tip. Well it wasn't me (I informed him of such) but I remember how happy he was to receive the tip, it had really made his day.
But do I tip now? No I don't, mostly because I just don't have the extra cash to do so. But I don't think it's bad. If it makes you feel better then by all means tip away! You may just make someones dayBoyWander Thanks this. -
If you work based on tips, employers are required to make up the difference if the tips don't equal minimum wage.
Shower attendants are not tip based employees, therefore I refuse to tip someone when they are getting a hourly wage. If you work on tips and provide me a service, then we can talk.RockinChair Thanks this. -
Interesting to read everyone's take on the subject. 98% of the time I don't leave a tip, every once in a while if a shower is REALLY clean or if the attendant did something to make the shower better such as offer me an additional towel (happens a lot of Pilot) then I may lave a dollar or two since it was more than I expected.
