I’m amazed and absolutely floored at how many people say they don’t use their seatbelt, unless they’re saying it just to see if someone like me comes along and falls for a ruse.

Is it really that painful or inconvenient to wear it? If I’m in a group, and someone else is driving, there’s not much I can do or say if someone else chooses not to wear theirs. However, if I’m driving, my vehicle doesn’t move until everyone is belted in. In fact, I’ve embarrassed several friends and acquaintances who tried to argue with me that it was their “right” not to wear it. I made it clear to them that in my vehicle, when it comes to safety, there is no democracy; I run an authoritarian dictatorship which everyone will follow.

Does anyone here want to assert that it’s their “right” not to wear a seatbelt while on public motorways? If so, you’d be dreadfully wrong. It’s not a right, just like there’s no right to drive.

For me it has nothing to do with it being or not being my right. I just don't do it often. No rhyme or reason. I just don't do it

I didn’t wear it in my 73 Mack F700 either...... before shoulder belts. And the belts didn’t wind up , just lay there in a messy pile......

I don't wear mine as a matter of choice. Much the same as I don't wear a helmet on the motorcycle or bicycle. The st00pid bell in the car goes off after a while and none of my pickups have the bell. Two of them dont even have shoulder harnesses. I grew up without them and really don't care to have one on. I'll drape it across my shoulder when pulling into a scale or if some bloated carcass of a public servant hangs too close to the truck for too long. I don't button my jeans while driving either.

I take it off once I enter a truck stop, shipper/receiver, or private property. It’s easier without it while backing up. I remember a US Foods local driver told me he got in trouble for not wearing his seatbelt while backing up. Their trucks apparently have in-cab cameras.

Those who don’t wear it might think twice after a bear on an overpass with looking glasses sees them without a seatbelt.
