Clyde was his name. Had colon cancer. We pretended to be quarantined, BBQ & the ladies brought grub back. Hated his job, not his family.

I had to dodge scales the other day. I was 99% sure this thing was overweight! Because last time I was here I was. The nearest scales the way I was going was over an hour away. I ended up wasting the whole day going to the scale and coming back last time. I wasn't going to do that again. Heck I think this one may of even weighed more than the last one I hauled! Plus it was multiple stops with a tight deadline. So I didn't bother weigh the load. Went around the scales in Chicago. And avoided the ones in Indiana and Michigan. I really didn't divert too much, maybe 1-2hrs extra taking the modified route. Whoever plans these loads need to do a better job. No driver should have spend all day getting a load reworked(loss productivity and money)or put in a position where the driver has to avoid scales(fines and penalties if caught).

Dude, if it took an extra hour or two to go around those scales, you got lost!
Cowmobile and CondoCruiser Thank this. -
Not sure what you mean by that. It was going to Detroit from central IL. I pretty much was on the tollway longer than I should of been.

You could of got off in Joliet and run the back roads over to I-57 back up to I-80. Maybe 4 miles out of route. Then run the toll road to US20 all the way to Toledo. Run the northern loop to US24 up to Monroe and jump back on the interstate. It's not more than 10 miles difference.
You had the Pilot scales in Minooka and there are a couple more before it. Or if you mean Central central IL there are still scales all over the place. You could of run US24 to all the way to Monroe, MI and back on the interstate.
Get you a Cat Scale directory if you don't have one. They are usually hanging on the wall near the truck stop bathrooms. What town did you pick up in? -
The absolutely most time-consuming way maybe adds an hour, but if you do it right, it's about 30 extra minutes, and the nearly $20 bucks it takes to run the toll road. OH won't let you on if you're too fat, so you get off just before the cashbox and run 20 into Toledo, up 23, and from there depends on what part of Detroit you're going to deliver. I ran fat from there to MSP on a very occasional basis (Weekly! LOL) It sure did suck when Grass Lake finally opened back up after the construction.

My calculator was female, you could never trust the weight she figured up!

I forgot about 23. It's been geez almost 4 years since I run them roads. I use to deliver in Dexter and then cut down to Toledo. US20 I could show you easier than describing dodging the tolls. I think it was Lake Station where I got on it at. Then again 6 is bring back memories. We had to dodge all the toll roads with my last company.
When you see an ad that says we pay certain toll roads means they pay one you never run. The rest you dodge.

I think the closest scale is in Springfield which was 1hr south and east. I was going north and east.
I've only been driving for about a year. And lol I was kinda in a rush and I just looked at the easiest fairly efficient way. Pretty much up to Chicago, stay on tollways to 23 to 94. Really don't care for back roads. Twist and turns thru cities and towns...not really my thing. Those are better routes though, I keep them in mind.
