So a couple weeks ago now, I had a symptom that scared the hell out of me enough to call directly to my doctor.

he decided he wanted to do a colonoscopy and it 'wasn't a rush, but the sooner the better". That was on Tuesday.

The following Thursday, weekend of 12/1, I went in and had that and a polyp removed. It's actual surgery folks, complete with kool drugs and open wound to heal. Forced to take 4 days off the road and the next week was hesitantly approved to go on a short regional run but stick close to the house.

On 12/5, the biopsy results returned.

Tubular adenoma with a focus of high grade dysplasia.

I am 45 years old. Had I not presented a sign or ignored it, I would have had colon cancer within the year my doctor felt and by age 50, when a colonoscopy is first suggested, he's not sure how bad it would have been. But we'd have been having a much more serious conversation.

in this vein.....my father has been through chemo/radiation twice for cancer caused by agent orange. to all you old timers out there...if you were in vietnam YOU WERE EXPOSED...period. please get yourself checked regularly by a place at least somewhat familiar with large cell blastoma (not sure how to spell that) it may mean the difference to whether you live or die. it is EXTREMELY aggressive, and the va should pay your whole shot, and government should give you disability for as long as it takes to "get well". my father was near death both times... when it was first caught the doctor later told him they (several doctors had been consulting, i counted at least 6) had "never seen someone so sick before". hours later may have meant he would be dead.

Same thing happened to me. Age 47 [ 13 years ago ] , had a slight stomach pain for several months, passed a little blood from time to time. Dr. said get a colonoscopy,I did and nothing was found. Pain got worse, more blood. They did it again, but a different way, on a Thursday, this time they found something.. Friday I was told to be at hospital Tuesday for operation to remove tumor in intestine.Parked truck, had operation, was in hospital for 1 week, could not drive for another week. Had to ease back into trucking. Then the fun started. Chemotherapy once a week for 26 weeks. On Friday I would go to Doctor's office, sit for 3 hours with IV in arm, while chemicals were injected. Would feel fine until Monday AM,then terrible, terrible diarrhea for 36 hours, then tired as heck for 2 days , then feel better until next the Monday morning . Did that 26 times, regular as clockwork. I had to make a living, so made arrangements to be home on Friday for treatment, unload on Monday morning somewhere, then head home. Once it took me 2 days to go 300 miles, that stuff made me so tired.Lost 50 pounds. Chemo treatment is a rough time.
I now have a colonoscopy every 3 years, and a complete body MRI every 2 years, all is well.Doctor said sitting for long periods of time as a truck driver does, and eating my meat well done, probabaly caused my cancer.
Everyone should takes the advice given by docs on having a colonoscopy. The procedure can save your life, and it is not bad at all.

I get one every 5 years. Fall asleep talking to the nurse & wake up talking to the nurse, her telling me I can get dressed & go home. It's simple; you aren't even aware anything happened.

After 5.5 months of down time I'm just easing back to work. I had throat cancer and was treated with chemo and radiation to include a feeding tube . Treatment ran from July 3 to Aug 17 2012. I had a pet scan yesterday and now I'm cancer free.

Number one reason why i'm stopped eating meat, not so much that i think it could cause cancer, but rather that it does not digest well in a seditary lifestyle. For years, i'd get exercise when i'm home and be on the thunderbucket getting rid of what was not passing during the last 3-4 weeks.

i've thought about trying to find some funding to educational out reach about prostrate cancer... something like this maybe. "hit it, Hal"

These posts all show the need to pay attention to our health. The colonoscopy is a good tool. I had one at 60 years of age, and got a 10 year window, which I'll show up for. The posts also seem to say it's a great idea to lighten up that diet. Have at least one day/week of no meat foods, eat more fruits and veggies, drink more water (hydration is so important yet so under-rated. Stay away from the poison known as white flour foods. It's also a fine line between hydration and stopping at every rest area) and do our best to stay regular. A lot of health issues come under this banner. I'm a cancer survivor, melanoma tumor, and I have to be careful anyway; take my word for it, it's a lot better to not get cancer in the first place.

Had my first procedure two years ago at 50. Had a single benign polyp. But I'm on a five-year cycle because my mother had a very, very early cancerous polyp removed when she was in her early 60s. Other then that, I'm "good to go"!

I had never been under anesthesia before, so it was kinda interesting, at least when the drugs first started to take hold. After that, all I remember is a dream about a unicorn being behind me.....
