Okay seriously I checked out a Maritime Academy in Traverse City, Michigan and the programs looked to run a total of at least 60,000. Maybe even more for the Officer program.
I just can't see putting down that kind of cash. It seems like there should be a trucking equivalent training for this kind of thing. Sign up, get on a boat with a training program, and get in as a lowbie deckhand. Get some experience and try to work and train up for a better rank.
Even with something like that there should still be a big distinction between them and the Officers though. But maybe experience working could count toward an Officer Academy program if they want to advance but I'd accept that standard the Officers should have a degree.
I guess me personally I find the big ships kind of interesting and would be a means to see more of the world. -
but wow...the $60,000 price tag.....how many months/years will that equal to...???? -
