The 23% are hired to be DOT cops and to rewrite the HOS regs. LOL

Based on my personal experience with the school systems, yes I can! True some people just have a hard time learning, but . . . that test isn't that darn hard!

Okay seriously I checked out a Maritime Academy in Traverse City, Michigan and the programs looked to run a total of at least 60,000. Maybe even more for the Officer program.

I just can't see putting down that kind of cash. It seems like there should be a trucking equivalent training for this kind of thing. Sign up, get on a boat with a training program, and get in as a lowbie deckhand. Get some experience and try to work and train up for a better rank.

Even with something like that there should still be a big distinction between them and the Officers though. But maybe experience working could count toward an Officer Academy program if they want to advance but I'd accept that standard the Officers should have a degree.

I guess me personally I find the big ships kind of interesting and would be a means to see more of the world.

probably part of the reason is, the students have to map out the shore line and the reefs and other obstacles in the path of the ships..?? for instance to be a tug boat captain/pilot, one has to do as i mentioned. and by the way, it has to be drawn by memory once you learned all the locations.....i seem to remember seeing something like this either on the learning channel or discovery channel.

but wow...the $60,000 price tag.....how many months/years will that equal to...????

You could hope you find One Eyes Willy's Treasure and then you could afford Harvard.
