Does anybody know where to get financial assistance for food while out on the road?

Well Dave Ramsey would certainly disagree with you, but personally I think that would be a lot better than being stranded with no money.

It would be easier to swipe them than to pay for them half the time as scarce as cashiers are at the truck checkout counter most of the time.

That's my point, this morning when I got here, I went out to the yard, took a cap off of a WS and tried like hell to cross thread the cap, NOPE.

I went to the 1985 gmc service truck which has the old steel tanks with the brass cap, tried to cross thread it, even used a wrench and it would go so far and then I could still get it off without the wrench.

Ramsey is right about most stuff but, his debit card/credit card narrative is just nuts. I for one am not going to put my financial stuff on a computer just so I can log into it everyday and then auto-transfer just enough to cover debit card purchases, screw that. I use a credit card, pay the full balance every month, no fee credit card, no interest paid.

I bet the threads are just filled with crud that's solidified.

Then again, some of my idiots have gotten one half of the fuel cap on the threads.

Could be, just can see how anyone can’t get it off.

"Dave, I have a job opportunity that will significantly increase my income but I will have to go 4 weeks without a paycheck and will need to use a credit card for food. Should I take the job and build some short term, high interest debt or should I stay at the job that barely covers my bills?"

Posing the question that way, I think Ramsey would be okay with the short term debt. He'd argue the OP should get a lower interest loan from a bank, but Ramsey has never had a problem using debt for advancement.

In the larger picture, Ramsey is 100% wrong on credit cards. From fraud protection to rewards, there are great reasons to use credit over debit. Ramsey's main objection stems from the belief that swiping a card makes it easier to spend than using cash - and he's correct. From a psychological perspective, people are loath to use physical cash or write a check which makes them more likely to engage in critical thinking before spending. However, if a person is doing that critical thinking and not spending on frivolities then avoiding using cards isn't getting them anything (provided they are not carrying a balance), and could actually be costing them money.

When you're dealing with a Cascadia and the tanks are shielded by the side skirting, it can be hard to get leverage. Last winter on my truck my passenger side cap didn't want to budge, took me almost 15 minutes to get the dang thing off. It was just 5 years of accumulated crud that had built up so slowly I hadn't noticed it was getting hard to turn.
