Just curious, why not just get an air hose, and use the truck w/ idling up the truck a bit, works great

Funny, I just used one yesterday. Borrowed it from a Mechanic at work. Much better than others. Well worth $16.

It's like saying why use a cordless drill, if you can use one with a cord. Portable tools are just a bit easier.
Will tell you even more. In my whole house I have smart light switches, so sometimes when I lay on the couch with a beer in my hand watching TV, I don't have to get up to turn off the light, I just do it from my phone ;)

I don't understand why this thread is going on, when I was trucking, frugal was the key, and plus the fact, portable compressors were very poor. Maybe for an air mattress, but nothing compared to a hose and glad hand. Didn't cost a dime, and if you think your cordless air pump will last the ages, it won't. It's made to fail, and I never had a truck compressor fail. A cordless drill is a poor comparison, and while cordless has gotten better, the only thing you gain is movement freedom, but rest assured, an electric drill will outlast any cordless. Do what you want, and for the record, I never had an issue with turning a light switch off.

Have you tried new modern 18-20v portable tools and noticed how powerful they are?

I've had a truck compressor failure.

    Couple years back.

I hate using my trucks compressor. The cut in pressure on my t680 was somewhere near 110 psi. I had to hit the brakes to drain air so it would cut back in for every tire or else id be sitting there an hour to fill tires. At home my 120v 8 gallon cheap compressor works way better.

Is there a way to increase the cut in pressure? Its good enough but it sure is annoying.

There's an adjustment in the cutoff valve.

Most trucks I've driven have been around 110. Hard to get with full fill.

My current rig says 130. But I'm lucky if I can get 105.

I have not. I'm used to the old 9.4V Makita drill from the thrift store that you're lucky to get 2 holes. I'm pretty sure all cordless air pumps use a diaphragm compressor, rather than a piston, like a truck or 110v compressors. It's what makes them compact, but prone to failure. You leave your cordless compressor on for 15 minutes with a truck tire, it is going to get incredibly hot, and even the new cordless, 15 minutes of continuous operation sounds like a lot.

If you want to get more pressure from the truck compressor an air doubler might help but it don't make the job any faster.

DeWalt Pancakes goto 165PSI which is higher than others. Not a small item to put on a truck though.
