DOT INFO : SAFER Web - Company Snapshot VIS INC
I'm in south of Miami. I've recently been calling multiple phone numbers given by the school i went to train at and they have some really sketchy companies that may or may not be hiring. Only one seemed like a reputable company based out of Tampa,Fl. There not accepting new grads based of their website. Started calling and i got one driver who I'm communicating with on the process(They gave his number on the list). Company is based out of Chicago, IL like a lot of the others on the list. There website is even more sketchy(The one given by DOT Report). There location being a multiple office building accommodating not just them but a directory of businesses that are different.
Anyways after sending this driver/recruiter my License and Dot card(Should i do that by the way? Is it usual?) i'm quite confused because the application wants a lot more info and i don't really know anything about this company or the recruiter really. I'm just desperate, but not that desperate to fall for a possible scam.
My plan is to move up north to Jacksonville and establish residency there. When i asked mega carriers recruiters if they would of hypothetically hired me if i was living in Jacksonville they all said yes.
Does anyone know a trucking company by the name VIS INC?

You checked the Safer site (Good for you, this should always be done) and see that OOS rate of 29%. I wouldn't go near a company like that. And watch out for any Chicago area companies. Ask if you would be paid on a W2. If not, stay away. Those companies paying on a 1099 as an independent contractor, are screwing a lot of drivers out of a lot of $$.
And I would check the FMCSA SMS (for CSA violations) too. This is the one for that company:
Safety Measurement System - Overview (U.S. DOT# 3842928).
Click on the Vehicle Maintenance box and you can see that they are good a keep their equipment in shape. -
If they seem sketchy, they probably are. As pointed out, their out of service rate is high, and they have had 14 crashes in the last two years with one being fatal. Any company in Chicago is likely going to be a 1099 place, as mentioned by the other post in reply to your thread. The address being an office building isn't necessarily a red flag per se, because there are some companies that have their office located in a strip center or building with suites, while keeping their equipment parked somewhere else. I worked for a really good guy who had several trucks and his office address was his home address but the trucks were parked some place else.
An employment application will usually require personal information like your social security number and such, but if you are unsure about the place you already sent your license and medical card to, then I would be leery of sending anything like my social. They don't need to actually see the license to check their insurance to make sure you can be covered, they just need the driver license number.Reso23, tscottme, kemosabi49 and 1 other person Thank this. -
Instead of trying hard to get hired by a shady company I would get the F out of South FL. I don't know about sending a pic of your CDL. I think a legit company can look up the necessary info with just the CDL number.
-
But they need the full picture of the CDL to give to their illegal driver.

Thank you for the response. I certainly will avoid at all cost Chicago based companies. Im a new cdl holder so i should probably be looking to only get on with mega carriers and see who gives me a chance first.tscottme Thanks this.

Im an immigrant myself. Came here young and went through the school system. Trucking seems to be a very common type of job among immigrants of all kind, from south of america to europe and even india and middle east. Them using my info would be scary.

Most said it in a way where it sounded like they were asking for the full license picture.Stringb8n Thanks this.
