Oh boy, that was my upbringing. My only options growing up in America were to become an engineer or something reputable in the medical field. They've since passed which has sadly freed me from my upbringing. I loved them immensely, but I have always felt they were misguided in their worldview. It was never a topic I dared touch on.KansasWhirl Thanks this.

is your job based out of Cali or are they in Tennessee as well?
-
who do you work for if you don't mind me asking? -
don't know what your plans are to become a trucker. and don't know what your bills are.
but if you make the wages that utah makes. your going to be taking an 80% cut in pay. paharmacists in utah are the highest paid earners. with salt lake air traffic control being a close second.
i wished i woulda became a pharmacist. i'd be retired at this stage. -
I understand, I joined the Navy and told my parents on the day I left for boot camp. Father was cool with it because he was in the military, a tanker in North Africa fighting Rommel. Mother just couldn't believe I refused to be a teacher or dentist. Love the blue collar life! I also only buy used cars even though I can afford new ones; which ties in to doing what makes you happy and not worrying about what the neighbors think.HotH2o, duurmandy, moneyburner and 3 others Thank this.

Most days...I love it. It is a career that is unique.
Other days...I'd like to re-enact a horribly inaccurate scene from some action movie....y'all know the kind. I walk away from the truck in slow motion, throw a zippo or lit cigarette over my shoulder and the whole truck and trailer goes up in a fire ball, that gently blows my hair and jacket around? You know....moneyburner, Mev, Semi-Truculent Hamish and 4 others Thank this. -
Do I like my job ?

NO !
Do I need my job ?
yeah , pretty muchsnowwy Thanks this. -
Overall, I love the independence, travel, and now better money and benefits. As a former teacher, I enjoy not not needing to be in place ready or not when 30 teenagers come barreling in. I miss my family, but my kids are older and more independent now, and it works for us. I see where you are coming from. See if you can take a ride to get an idea. Customers can keep you waiting, DOT can get nit picky, and dispatchers can seem out to make you miserable sometimes, but I have found patience and a good company make all the difference in the world. I'm with Crete and I love it.

Based in California. The only states I hit outside of California are Washington, Oregon and Nevada.
