I have not been a driver for many years now and the only truck driving I do is testing trucks for a few miles about once a month or so.
If it paid better I may still have been driving but I had responsibilities that driving just could not cover.
For the most part I enjoyed it and really thought I would miss it but actually for the first couple of years after leaving truck driving I would not even drive our car if I had a choice.
My wife did 95% of the driving if we were together.
Maybe once a year or so I will go load up a truck if we are really short of a driver.
My biggest complaint is the total lack of respect you get as a driver.
Your time does not mean anything to most people.
If you can get past that I think you are 50% there.

That's the whole medical business anymore. Either it's changed or I've been blind for many years. They use to care about people. Now it's just another business and the all mighty dollar. It took getting older and health problems to see it all.

Trucking is great in many ways but it takes a special person to deal with all the negatives. You really don't know until you start driving what it's really like or whether you'd like it. Do you enjoy long trips? Do you have patience and a cool demeanor? Are you ready to marry the job and give the lifestyle 100%? If you answer yes then you might like it.

when you meet or conquer them you feel great... it can be stressfull at times but again you get through it...

As a solo driver you are alone with youself a lot.. so, that means you may or may not be in good company. It is said very often but it is so very true.. it is what you make it...

For me, i did not like how drab the inside of mh cab was... slate grey, black trim.. drab, drab drab.. so I made mi e colorful.... I was chatting with a driver the other day and he was complaining because his truck doesnt have the front curtains, that go around the windows, he only has the cab curtain... so I shared I took two beach towels and use one over the windshield and the other I cut in half and use for the side windows.. the towels were only $10 each and I spent maybe another $10 on the hooks I use.. well, he felt he shouldn't have to spend his money on curtains.... so he just continued to complain while eating $15 worth of Arby's.... which he is also tired of eating fast food... well I left him with his complaining went into my colorful cab and cooked me a nice chicken pasta dinner and ate it in privacy behind my tye dye self made curtains..

I can honestly say after 33 years that I LOVE my job .
Where else can you get paid to travel all over this great country ?
I admit some of the places we see and go to are not the most beautiful places on earth but you drive them to get to the shady side.

I still get a big old smile on my face when I fire up that cat motor and hear her purr in the morning !!!
I mean how can you hate a job where you get to see a heard of antelope on the high plains of Wyoming ?
Or watch a storm cross the desert in Arizona in the summer.

How about driving across Iowa in the spring when the corn is coming up ?
or the wheat harvest in North Dakota when they have four combines all together with the dust flying .

I was just running up and down I26 in North Carolina last week and the view from the top of the hill at the state line with Virginia looking over the smokey mountains is a sight to see .

Now I know we all hate all the rules and regulations but hey that's life I for one don't have the time sweat the petty stuff.
I stay away from all whiners and haters out here because if you hate it that much quit nobody is holding a gun to your head .
If you are not happy at your company then go to another one.
If you just plain don't like trucking then go do something that will make you happy !!!

Me I am one of the few and the very lucky to be able to say with all honesty that I would not do anything else !!
I do have to admit that I am not a freight hauler that has to wait at docks or make delivery appointments .
I did that with a refer for 14 years and I can tell you I don't miss it at all !!

Now all i do is drop and hook and most of them are brand new wagons so it makes life so much sweeter !!
But even when I was chasing the produce and running late all the time I still loved trucking!!

I could go on for hours about how much I enjoy my job and the places I have been and the people I have met in 33 years but I won't bore you all any longer .
Just to answer the OP does anyone like their job? Put me down for a yes I do thanks for asking !!!

As for the question should you try it ??? All I can say is I never tell anyone that they should drive a truck but I also would never do anything else !!!

Good luck with what ever it is that you decide to do and if it is trucking I hope you will be as blessed as I have been !!!
