Does Barr-nunn sit too much?

Discussion in 'Motor Carrier Questions - The Inside Scoop' started by possumposs, May 20, 2015.

I have Barr-nunn on my short list, but have heard that they sit a lot. True?

No matter how much they pay, you can't make anything if you're sitting in a truckstop waiting on them to find you something. Sitting makes me more tired than driving. Just trying to find out the story before making a decision to move on.

Would like info on this too. I spoke to a rep recently who said that with my experience they'd start me at 49 cents a mile. This is after I saw an ad saying you'd make 1,600+ bucks a week(company driver). I thought no way, but it wouldn't be so bad if I could come at least somewhat close to that. I want to make at least a thousand net per week and it's very possible with 49 cents a mile with about 2500 miles a week.

So if anyone has any info on them as it concerns the miles, please share.

Depends what you consider excessive sitting. I prefer to drive 350-500 miles a day. If you prefer to drive 600 for way less money because sitting makes you tired you won't like it at Barr Nunn. My Base rate is .545 cents. With band pay that makes it .565 per mile plus bonus and other things. I get 14 days off and I'm not even at the 9 days off every 60,000 miles yet! That would be 20 paid days off at that point. If you run OTR you will run about 115,000- 120,000miles. Regional more like 100,000 miles. I run OTR and will make $71,000 this year.

Do I sit? Yes. Do I make good money sitting? I like what I put in the bank at the end of the week.

Do I make $1600 a week? Maybe 6 weeks a year are around $1800. Most weeks are about $1300. Best week 3200 miles. Average full week 2400 miles. 1800- 2100 on the week I go home.

Still Here after 7 years through the up and downs we had.

Barr-Nunn has a great 401k @ .02 a mile (company drivers). I wonder if anyone else offers that

And it's from day one. Fully vested after 5 years. Most companies won't match or contribute till you've been there a while. It may not be the absolute strongest perk at Barr Nunn, but it is another benefit to consider on top of the pay package.

That is a great 401k match but I doubt most guys ever own the company match. 5 years to vested is a looonnnngggg time.

2400 Mikes a week? That's only 4.5 days, so what do you do with rest of the week? Seems nobody wants to work anymore, and the companies act like they're doing you a personal favor if you get 2500 miles. I used to run at least 3800mi a week, sometimes more, but that went away when oil folded.

It is a long time for job hoppers. Too many drivers quit based on emotions.
