Does the distance of a terminal from my house matter after I'm in and good with a company? I know that drivers can park their trucks at home or close by, but I'm just curious if terminal distance could affect me in any way.
EDIT: Swift is 45 minutes away from me, but I'm hearing really bad things about Swift.
Schneider was my other choice, but their nearest terminal is a state away. My neighborhood has rules against parking rigs.
Does distance to the terminal matter when job hunting?

It varies from company to company. LoneStar was gonna hire me out of southwest Louisiana. They're out of Ft. Worth. My truck would've come home with me.

Depends on the companies policy regarding taking their trucks home. I'm just guessing here, but it seems like it would be easier to get home time if you are close to a terminal. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

The big companies don't really care where you live.
Smaller ones might care more since they want their trucks serviced in their shop when you're not driving it. -
No, but if you never want to ride on Greyhound you should look into local work.

I drove for a company outta Central Point, OR. Parked my truck at home in Knoxville, TN. Closest "terminal" they had was 550 miles away in Ill. But, yes, it does depend on the company you work for.

i work for a company that the yard that im based out of is 150 miles from home, the main yard/office/shop is 350 miles from home in another state, the truck does not come home with me. i bought a cheap fuel efficient car for driving back and forth for my time off.

Just look up the hiring areas. Most companies usually have a map somewhere on their site showing them. Sometimes it's more about freight lanes than terminal locations. Just depends on the company. For instance, my company has hiring areas 2000 miles away from the nearest terminal. Other companies have rules that you must be within 90-120 miles of the nearest terminal.
