I can't find anywhere in the FMCSR book that says having a brain surgery DQ u... So if anyone has any information that they can actually show me to look at I would greatly appreciate it.

What kind of brain surgery? To repair a traumatic brain injury? To help with seizure disorders?

I just went to the FMCSA website and typed in their search engine "brain surgery" and 15 files came up...

No, you wouldn't be disqualified just because you had brain surgery. One of my friends had a brain tumor and they successfully removed it...and once he was off of the medications and cleared by the doctors, he was right back in the driver's seat. The only issue I could see is if the surgery left you with deficient motor skills, impaired judgement, or some other physical limitation which would disqualify you on the basis of that physical limitation...

...besides, most of these companies these days would prefer a candidate who has had some (or all) of their brain removed. They want a driver who will do as he is told...no more, no less...and doesn't think too much.

Well Thank You to all of you that responded so quick!! @ Pedigreed Bulldog ~ it was too have 2 brain tumors removed that I didn't even know I had but doc says they been there for 7-10 yrs. but just starting giving me problems! I don't have any damage actually except my 7 nerve was slightly damaged which controls my taste buds and I have NO taste! I have been very lucky cause 99% of people who have these kind of tumors that I got end up with severe defects weather it is paralyzed, droopy face, completely deaf. I don't fall under that! I did speak to a DOT doc office but it was just a nurse and she said the same thing that a brain surgery doesn't DQ me but if I was to have side affects or seizures but you know I just wanted someone else's opinion out here in the trucking world!

Thank You Daddys Girl! My surgery went excellent! I had it October! I have been working out at the gym and making sure I am able to do things that can be involved with trucking from the things and experiences I have gone thru! I just have to keep an open mind and stay strong! My brain surgeon is so gun hoe on me getting back in the truck without a doubt and I am just not sure if he truly means it or is just saying it too keep me in good spirits so I will be waiting to see what the National Institute of Health says in May to determine what the next step is! So I am hoping between July and October to back into the truck!!! Again Thanks!

Congrats to your successful surgery! I guess I'm stuck in the dark ages when it comes to any kind of surgery on the brain. It would scare the living daylights out of me!

Again, I do wish you continue success with your therapy!

Thanks again! I was scared ########... Actually 2 days before surgery I called the doc to back out and he said if I didn't have the surgery the tumors could grow and cause me to be paralyzed or kill me. So I did it. I have not did any therapy! I just am trying to do things myself to keep me up and get me doing things cause depression is a #####. Trust me I tried to give up on life twice in 8 months!!! It is a hard pill to swallow when your independence is ripped from you.....
