I work hard regardless of pay, but if the pay is not what I want or the promises are empty from when I signed up, I am looking for the exits immediately and will give my 2 weeks at the drop of a hat and maybe not even that if they are really screwing with pay. I figure they can be mad all they want, but they can't ever say I was lazy.
I will say though, lower wage jobs I often will miss a lot, because I am busy applying & interviewing elsewhere or just don't care. If the pay is good, I never miss a day.

I started out paid by the mile. I am now paid hourly and it has not affected my desire to complete all of my tasks in a timely manner.

Yeah it does me. I know if I drive harder and faster today I'll be in range of my destination for tomorrow and then I can start my break earlier and pick up my load off of a fresh 10 so I can make more miles on that day. Its always something like that. In fairness no matter the system, unless it was maybe hourly, I would drive that way. If you paid me more per mile I would just want to make even more money so why slow down?

Yeah as it affects me, long term anyway. If I put in 110% every day (over used cliche. But whatever) but never get recognized for my performance it saps my motivation.
If I have co-workers that only put in 85% and take home the same $?
Too often I find that I have to do my job AND the work that somebody else put off "eh, for tomorrow" and on one occasion I got laid off because I was "raking in excessive O/T" because we had a warehouse full of kids that couldn't finish their job inside of their shift.
I used to be a cab driver, and I've never seen a better example of being personally responsible for your own income. If you want to hang out in the dispatch office or circle the McDonalds drive through, or loiter at the convince store all shift. That's on you but don't comain when you only take home $40 at the end of the night.
On the other hand if you work the bus depot, the train station and the supermarket, you might get all $2 calls but at the end of the night you'll have almost 50 trips in a shift. Plus tips.
Going to to my first hourly job was an eye opener by comparison. -

Two things that come to mind,
1 - you get what you pay for
2 - the better people are hard to find, are expensive to employ and hard to keep. -
Higher Pay: without a doubt, you realize you can find growth, focus on preventative maintenance Vs. break down maintenance, take extended vacations, buy first class airline tickets for your family members whom can take some time off to attend a grand daughters=son's birthday, All while looking to invest meaningfully in your future; Sigh, when the work is really grueling all of the money can not buy how better nutrition can help calm their mind during periods of intense stress. (gaining knowledge on better nutrition...that's extra work)
psst. i hear Warren Buffet is asking for a quarter million back from last years (his belief) over paid wages...he'll never see it. -
I had 4 jobs I could have accepted,turned them all down because of the pay.The most recent was yesterday.If employers can't pay what drivers are worth then they deserve to keep having issues finding good qualified drivers.
