Just be aware if dealing with a credit union, they are not ALL on the coop network. If you use one that is, its wonderful. I only use credit unions, but I have 2 different ones I've been with out here. I've had an account with a worldwide credit union since I was 5, they are not on the network and can sometimes be a pain to find one. Ive also used a small, one branch credit union that was on the network, making access to them fairly easy most of the time. There are good and bad to both, just make sure you are aware to whether yours is on the network or not. There are 2 small (each has a handful of branches) credit unions that i know of near me now that are not on the coop network.
Does it matter what bank you have if OTR?

I’m with chase; never had a problem. My sister is with fifth third bank and she was always having to call in and tell them where she was traveling.

I have USAA and have never had a problem. I handle travel updates thru the mobile app.
Between debit cards, on line banking, and mobile deposit, who needs a brick and mortar bank anymore? <<<For daily banking purposes that is. -
kemosabi49 Thanks this.

As far as getting cash on the road, if you plan ahead a little bit you can get cash back at WMarts and other places and not have to be concerned about atm fees.

The only problem I've ever had along these lines is that one of my banks uses a really cheap provider for their debit cards. The mag strip wears out in a few months and then only the chip works. Every once in a while every bank does a fraud test to see if I actually made a recent charge. I'll get a text or a call.

This topic intrigued me enough that I took the time to speak to someone at my bank this morning. This is what they told me, and I think it makes perfect sense too. Banks do this as a part of their fight against identity theft. This person went on to tell me this is their PRIMARY problem today. It's not so much they cut a card off, as it is the bank wants to know it's really you making that purchase.
Brettj3876 and Dockbumper Thank this. -
