It's not the actual condition that is the danger to driving, it is many of the (untreated) symptoms such as chronic daytime sleepiness, confusion, slow reaction times, etc. that can "cause a crash". So, do the companies have ulterior motives in trying to have it diagnosed as opposed to just caring about their driver? I'm sure many do. I think they go overboard with it to the extreme to try and avoid those circumstances, though.

can still get a med card with sleep apnea. it is only a one year card. i know this because i have sleep apnea
-
That's once you have been tested and can document successful treatment . If a doctor recommends a sleep study the most he will get will be a 30 day card until he can document that treatment
-
There is no FMCSA regulation regarding BMI or neck size . I have posted quotes from an examining physician in other threads stating he will NOT recommend a driver for a sleep study based on BMI or neck size alone even when carriers suggest it .

i got like a 18 inch neck but i don't have sleep apnea. I'm a beast though.
