Do I have to wait for the paperwork to go through on the WIA grant before I enroll at Roadmaster, or will they let me start the program right away with the understanding that it will be mostly if not all covered by the WIA program?
(The reason I am considering this school, as opposed to a community college program, is that I have no income now, and I will soon be out on the street if I don't get a job within the next couple months. If I go to the community college I won't have my CDL until november, and then I don't know how long I will have to wait until I get a job after that.)
Does Roadmaster School take WIA grants, and if so...?

Before you go any further, is there any thing in your past that will make it harder to get hired?
Driving infractions, criminal convictions, medical conditions etc?
As to your question, your best bet would be to contact the school and ask them directly. Ask both a recruiter and also ask to speak to whom ever runs their finance office.jtrnr1951 Thanks this. -

Getting a CDL and landing a job can be WORLDS apart.
Getting a CDL doesn't require a clean criminal background check nor a spotless MVR for example.
The companies that are doing the hiring have their own set of rules. Having a CDL is by no means an assurance of getting a job driving a rig. I'm not trying to be negative, I'm just trying to tell you the way it really is.
Spend as much time as you can reading the various threads here before you make a committment.
A school recruiters job is to get you to sign on the dotted line and get the $$$. -
I know they happily accept WIA, got a guy in my class using it for 100% of his tuition. They will probably want you to have the paperwork approved before they take you, and I can't blame them if they did. No point in training you and hoping the government moves quick enough to make your payment.
Rich_T is correct in his question. Getting your CDL is just the start of getting a job. Same guy that's using WIA has 2 DUI's. Granted one is 26 years ago and the other is 12years old, he still has them. He can get his CDL, but so far he has only found one truck company, Swift, that will take him. Before I even signed the paperwork to go to Roadmasters I filled out 5 applications and sent them all in to get prehires before I would fully consider going to school. And I'm glad I did since I was fired from my job for asking for 3 Thursdays off to attend classes.
Good luck in your journey man, if you have a question please ask or hit me up in my thread just below this one about my trek through KCMO's Roadmaster.

Hey, hello, NegativePositive, would certainly like to know more about this WIA Grant thing AND your experience so far with Roadmaster...before I make my next major move...have a couple of truckdriver friends who have been baggering me about taking the CDL step...thinking I'd be good at it, for my love of traveling and driving...let alone NEEDING a good stable income. I do have a nice clean background and driving record...hopefully good positive marks to start!
