Please advise how to bump up the idle. I know *using the accelerator* but HOW do you really do it? There are other adjustments involved right? I will need to know this, for sure!![]()

Using the cruise control. -
I have an apu but it will shut off after a minute or two of using the a/c. the guys in gary said it was a bad sensor or something and they had to order it. Is there a way to idle until I can get into a terminal to get it fixed?
-
Are you getting a fault code on the APU?
-
Try putting something on the accelerator to keep the rpms about 6000. I spent ten bucks for a throttle stick. Comes in real handy when the apu goes down. You might have to release the tractor brake as well.
-
Holy crap, 6000?
. Mine only reads up to 3000, you must have jet engines on that bad boy.
-
Sorry, make that 600. If you are going to idle you want to get it above normal idle otherwise it does bad things to the engine. (of course 6000 should really mess with a newbie's mind.)
-
Where did you buy your throttle stick?
-
1) Release tractor brake ......but leave trailer brake on?
2) Idle the engine using the throttle stick at 600rpm's.
This will keep your a/c running while you sleep without cutting off? If there's anything else I need to set or adjust please advise. I know they won't be too happy with me during the hot months. But I have to sleep.Last edited: Jul 5, 2011

I drive for Roehl been with them for a while. I would say close to 30 or 40 percent of the trucks hav apu's. I am on the 7/7 fleet so I never know what truck I will get. 7/7 drivers dont usually make any bonuses because of the quartely miles driven requirements but I am still encourged to get good mpg and keep unecessary idle time down as much as I can. It makes good sense to me to practice this because money saved is money earned on your annual profit sharing chek. If its hot and I dont have an apu I will idle, and during winter, the bunk heater is more than adequate. Just try and remember to shut your truck off@ all customers, rest areas, etc. ( and while doing your paper work ) and while hooking up and dropping loads. Use progressive shifting and keep your top speed rpm around 1400 and you will do just fine. One more thing, keep you fuel filter changed ( your job at Roehl and they provide them ) and if your truck is running trashy get them to look at it and tell your fleet mgr. first of corse. A bad running truck will not get good fuel economy.
