I spend a few college breaks working for the home town [min wage in the early 70's] and used to wince every time we were assigned to spend a rainy day 'emptying' trash cans at all the city parks. Late 60's chevy 6 wheel 6 cyl 4-speed little dumps. 'Parks' had two.

The oldest guy would be our driver as two college kids actually got to empty cans once in a while....'Pappy" had thick glasses and was only a year or so from retirement. a shaky start in 2nd and a short shift to third and we'd lug along the city streets at, maybe, 19 mph

When I drove school bus, I would have the throttle to the floor going up hill and the bus would not exceed 23 mph for a quarter mile....every school bus was the same here. And on a narrow two lane road. Get used to it!
