So I got my CDL A in May of 2022. I recently got approved for the HazMat endorsement, and added that on to my license. I got a new CDL that says issued date of October 2022. If or when I go to a new company, and they check my license with their insurance, will they consider me licensed since May or licensed since October? I have been driving for a few months now, local, and will be moving to a better paying company.
Your basic driving history is available to insurance carriers. In fact this information is on every DAC report I have seen. I am NOT talking about violations although they can be discovered. I am talking about issue dates. I was looking at my DAC about a week ago. I can see my original CDL issue date of 1993 on it. This DAC was pulled about 4 years ago. (I no longer drive so I am not worried about mine now). They will go by the date you were issued the CDL, the hazmat was just a reissue because of a change!
To be clear, nobody cares how long you've had your license. What they want is verifiable experience. Somebody could have had their CDL for 4 years and not ever driven after school and would be just as inexperienced as somebody who just got their license yesterday.
My insurance broker ran our MVR's for free. When he retired the lady left in the office [sold out to a larger guy located two states away] would question it all the time but would accept my verbal indication that the guy DID have 2 years experience. I'd be reading the MVR and see things she missed all the time like the line on the bottom showing the surrendered out of state CDL number that she should also run since Part 391 wants you to see back three years on all commercial licenses held.
