I didn't find an appropriate forum topic for this, so I hope it's ok to post here..
I'm divorced, my kids are grown and gone, and I'm looking for something to settle into for the remainder. I'm currently driving P&D in Florida for R&L. It's a good job, and I like the exercise vs. windshield time. But here's my wish list:

I'd like to find something cyclical (or seasonal) where I could take a few weeks off once or maybe twice a year (paid or not). I like to work hard when I'm working, but I don't like begging for more than 5 days off. R&L isn't much interested in vacations.
I like short hauls and doing a little work/exercise (it's why I'm considering flatbed). Of course, a 9-5 m-f would be great too.
Wouldn't mind a dedicated run so I can be familiar with my sleeping/shower locations.
I'm dreaming about O/O dedicated where I could buy a property along the route and stop home for shower/laundry regularly :D
Any type, haz mat, tanker, lowboy, car hauler, etc., doesn't matter.
Willing to relocate (love Tennessee and the Ozarks region) but would like to stay south-ish and not live in a big big city.

About me: Started with Schneider in 1994, bought a day cab and ran gravel O/O, then R&L for a total of 9 years now.
    Clean MVR since 1991
    Tanker, haz, double trailer endorsements

    Thanks guys

Work for a temp service that hires cdl drivers; work when you want to.
Yeah, Tennessee is nice; that's where I'm from originally.
    Also, lived in Florida.
Now I'm in Las Vegas and love it here. Good weather and palm trees.
Lots of jobs here driving construction trucks due to the new Interstate 11 being built and new homes & roads everywhere.

Yep, temp service, work for a small O/O in your area, or consider a contractor with FedEx Ground.

My son worked for Prime. He said I can do a walk-away lease every 6 mo and take as much time in between leases as I want. But of course its long haul OTR.

They have all shifts available. I have been wanting to do the same thing you do and looked into it. Just stay away from the mega carriers (obviously) and I think you'll be just fine.

You might see about working for Walmart. They always need a dedicated to a particular area. God knows you have the years of experience that they like. Whether you own or company is up to you. I like the thought of O/O as it is your way home if they change their minds about having you working for them. As well as you decide to roll or not for what ever your reasons are.

You wont be lumping any of their product. Yet it is usually a heck of a walk to find the manager for the BOL.

Might look into mail contractors near you. We have a few retirees who only work part of the year. I think they all work the local board but I'm not positive.

    Tennessee and the Ozarks...

Mr @Motorholmes, you don’t ride a steel horse, do you?
