Does the school matter, or just the license?

Do companies consider which school, and length of training, or do they just look for the license and any experience? One local trade school is offering a 6 month CDL A course for 10k, and a local Comm. College has a 6 week course for 3k. Do I go for the "Harvard" education, or just get out there as fast and cheaply as I can, and try to find some work . . .?

10k for school in an industry lucky to pay you 40k for the first few years???

I would take the $3k route.....but that is only my opinion.

Financially, I agree it makes no sense to spend 10k for the expected income . . . unless the amount of training is a consideration. The sales pitch that I learn much more in 6 months, than 6 weeks, does sound truthful . . . thus the question, as long as I can pass and get the license, is that all that counts?

I once trained a driver for a company I worked for. All he had to do was get his permit, some time behind the wheel, and take the test. He became a driver for the company. He later went to work for someone else years later as an OTR driver. No schooling, just real world training.

Doesn't matter . Every day the schools turn more graduates out and more experienced drivers get laid off . The odds against getting hired are steadily increasing . The $40,000 earnings for a newbie are a myth . Many posted here they are quitting after too many weeks taking home $300 or less .
