In my multi pick days in the days of NYC I used to stay at a motel in little ferry nj ( dump now ) called the capri moter lodge on rt 46 at the Hackensack River.
It was a fav of bedbuggers that would rent a straight truck there and go into the city to do p@d work , the would return at the end of the day to unload and reload into the big ride .
Pretty cool guys and alway had a cooler of beer in the trailer .

I'm in my bunk tonight and some old mover friend just called me to help him quote a job lol "Just when you think your done , they pull you back in ! "
I enjoyed the first 10 yrs of moving but the last 8 I could've done without.

I got my start in trucking back in ‘73 with an O/O that pulled for the big orange.

It was usually 3-4 households and that many days to get a load, usually to the west coast.

Very....tough job, but the owner of the truck was a master when it came to loading that furniture. We never had a damaged piece that I remember.

That was my trucking school and sadly he passed away a few years ago. Funniest man ever....he could have made a living at stand-up comedy.

I only worked for him a few months, but owe him so much.

I have been suckered into moving pianos so many times... I can imagine that people with enough money to hire a truck to go across the country , have tons of heavy stuff.
Are you well compensated for all this work?

    JoeyJunk and bzinger Thank this.

My best friend since high school owns a Mayflower agency in Northern California, and he can't find enough workers for all the business he's getting. Most of it is commercial as in businesses leaving the state. Most households go with U-Haul because they're so broke from paying all of the taxes out here.

I just checked out rates from San Jose to Dallas.
    A 26ft box truck is $5600 bucks
If you decide you dont like it and want to go back, its only 1600 bucks the other way !
