I may start with CRST soon. I will have to let them pay for my schooling, sign an 8 month contract and after 28 days of training, start out making .22 cpm. Does this sound normal? If this seems too low, I dont know any other company that will pay for my schooling up front.
Does this seem right?

OUCH. Seems low to me, but I haven't dealt with the rookie wages in years. I paid for my own school and started out at .25 per mile in 1999.
You might check with some of the other companies that actually have driving schools of their own. I'm sure you'll be owned by them for a year or so, but you might get better pay. Check into all of the training companies. Schneider, Swift, England come to mind for companies that have their own schools.
Hopefully someone with current kowledge will chime in here for you. -

I did the CRST pay for my school thing. Yep, its probably on the lower side, in my case I really didn't have a lot of options and I was grateful to have somebody pay for my school for me. I know other companies probably start a little higher but you are tied into them for a year as opposed to 8 months with CRST. Also the .22 wage is only for 3 months. They bump you to .24 after that, then. 30 after 6 months. Not sure what other companies do, but you might want to compare what you will be making after your contract expires with another company and what CRST pays and do the math to see what company would be a better fit.

Seems low to me. Look into grants or WIA. There's gotta be a better option. I almost went thru Driver Solutions since I couldn't get the WIA. But instead paid out of pocket. I know it's not an option for everyone but keep looking around before you put pen to paper.
Nycmex77 Thanks this. -
Depends on if you want it bad enough and if you can live off of those miles.
Work a year and have a good record and look around for another company, depends on what you want since one mans slave wages is another chance at new job. -
in dallas county the WIA has no funds.Last edited: Sep 19, 2011
