Does w/s offer a regional job suh as western 11 home weekly type of deal? I dont see anything about it on their website but a few people have told me they stay in the west and get home weekly quite often. Any truth to that?

Funny, a few years ago, if you'd made a post about WS, a driver would have responded within a day. That being said, I haven't worked there in over a year, but I'm assuming its still running about the same. Was all good while I was there. Decent miles, hometime when asked, etc. Pay seems low, but do the math, they pay hub miles (at least when I was there), all miles your tractor runs (Example: Current trip ends at 700,001 - Next trip starts at 700,001 - no matter if you go to lunch and to do laundry with truck), not bad when you think about the companies that only pay routed miles.
My home terminal was Santa Fe Springs, Ca. I was shipped out to our NC terminal and stayed there for about a month, till I requested hometime and was shipped back to the West. Spent most of my time with them on the West, but when I was there they pretty much at OTR, Shortline and Local. I'm not sure, but I do not believe they hire shortline off the street, I observed drivers put in for it, most had months or a year in with Company. American Trucker had a good thread going on WS (before he was banned from forum) and there is a Watkins Shepard whats your 20 thread that would give you a good idea of where guys are running, that thread is pretty dead now, but if you go back and follow one or two regular posters from 2011 or 2012, you'll get an idea of where they are running.

    Hope it helps.

I got an opportunity to do bay runs for about a month while the regular driver was trying to get his CDL reinstated. Good $$ $50 bonus on the run up the coast, $20 drops (10-22 a run), mileage and $25 bonus on the return wine run from Modesto. It was a 2.5 day run with a bit of magic being performed on paper in Paso Robles, before the scale heading to Modesto, lots of tight deliveries for sure, but well worth the $$. I was home one day per week and most weekends. It is definitely a game of favorites in SFS dispatch, driver I filled in for got caught at AFB with a suspended license, didn't lose his job and got his route back 1.5 months later when he got it cleared up. Term mgr told me if I bust butt, get the loads off, etc I could have the spot. I did 2 solid weeks of BS local runs, a month of bay runs, never late, and got shipped off to Washington Sate when the regular driver returned. Term Mgr told me he wasn't sure if Co. was going to keep driver, apologized for getting my hopes up and that was that.. Overall, WS is a good Co., transferred load to another driver and got me a new load home when wife thought she was in labor, false alarm, one week later, they allowed me to leave truck in Phoenix TS to fly home for birth, not many Co. would go through the hoops, no complaints except SFS terminal is a bit bias depending on your ethnicity.

I had to add, I got all the miles I wanted with WS, I know some drivers that complained about sitting, I never experienced that with them. All my pay increases were on time as well. Good company to work for in my book....

I heard from another forum member that Rick is no longer doing training in MT, not sure if you know, but is he still with WS? If so, in what capacity?

Yes he is, he works in dispatch now. Kelby now runs orientation with randy and another guy as his sidekick.

Interesting, Rick had transferred over to training from dispatch originally, Kelby was in charge when I went through a few years ago, Rick was sort of his sidekick. Not sure who Randy is, never met him. Good deal, thanks for the info, I'll have to give Rick a call and bust his balls a bit. Lucky for you drivers eh?! Haha, never worked with Ricky as a dispatcher, but heard it was a joy. Lol
