I dont see how u guys could be paid by the mile but letting ur company not pay u for doing ur job... u get paid by the mile so u need to be getting paid for every mile u drive ... Thats only fair in my book.. Even swift pays u for all miles . Loaded, empty and bobtail...if they try to justify it as "the trucks not making money empty" , thats fine then dont pay ur employees by the mile then...

I had to deadhead home from Fort Smith, AR to Memphis. They paid me the mileage to go home because they couldn't find a load that weekend

Swift does not pay you for your miles to and from your house when you go on home time.
That is personal time, by the way, not an assigned load.

Your home time load delivery location is the starting point for your next load. You are paid the empty miles between that last delivery and the next pickup.
And that is fair for all concerned.

I sometimes drive 30-40 miles to get home from that home time delivery load. It might take me closer to my load coming off home time, or further away. No telling.
But Swift paid for the fuel in either case.
And if getting home put me closer to that next load I still get paid the miles from my last delivery - not from my home.
If not, well, I just plan for the extra time when I consider the load.

This is not an issue of being paid for all the miles you drive in the truck.
It is about getting paid for all the miles you drive while under dispatch, and from one load to the next.
To and from home are personal miles, and should be considered as though you got out of your truck and got in your personal vehicle to drive home - and then back again to your truck.

Moose, what would YOUR company have done in the situation above? Yep, my faux pas.. sortof. Pretrip lacked, as did the post. Just wondering.

You are a great ambassador for Swift, as is Gary. Just wondering, out loud.

The point being u are paid for ur time fairly. Was not talking about hub miles but dispatched miles... some companies pay by the mile but only loaded miles is a scam in my opinion and just a way to keep costs down

    I really don't know.
If it was an emergency situation I'm pretty sure they would let be deadhead home. But I don't think I would be paid for the miles.

I really would not expect them to either.
In my opinion, that is over the top generosity.

Oh yeah, I've never gone home without a load except 1 other time in 11 years. The other time was my rookie year and I cant remember if I was paid for those empty miles.
