:biggrin_25514:If I had not ruined my back so that no one will take me I'd still be driving I liked my Job but like any job, it had good points & bad point's. Last job was with Averitt express On the Cracker Barrel account I usually ran from Lebanon, TN to the Boston, MA area my only complaint was on back-hauls some weeks I'd have 1 or 2 others I'd have 5 I never understood why we weren't better organized If it was us or the way C.B. sent the back-hauls to our dispatch, 3 weeks running I had to go to the port in Elizabeth, NJ each time I picked up at a different door but checked in at same main office with the same guy I asked if we were trying to save money why we didn't do all 3 pickups the same week to save on fuel & tolls, I was told to just make the pickups
& let it be. so yes there are things I didn't like but overall I liked it. & even with the headaches I would go back tomorrow if the DR would let me.

I think you hit the nail on the head G/man, I couldn't agree more. I'm glad to hear from someone that admits to liking this job. Ups and downs, good-bad, ying-yang. That's called life. Move along if you can't accept change. There's always somebody that would gladly sit in your seat.

No matter how much you like your job, there will be times when you don't like it. I don't like tarping when the weather is bad. Last winter I had to tarp a load when there was about 2'+ of snow on the ground, temperature was 16 degrees and it was still snowing. My tarps were white before I could finish tarping. I don't like getting filthy tarping. But, that is part of the job. It is what I have chosen to do. On the flip side, it does allow me to get some exercise which keeps me in better physical shape. I still prefer pulling a step deck or flat bed around than a van. I also don't like all the regulations that our government seems to want to add to the myriad of other useless regulations that make my job more difficult. Again, it is what I have chosen to do for a living. The pros still outweigh the cons. And, I don't whine about the things that I don't enjoy.....well, most of the time. I do sometimes complain about some of the constantly changing regulations. I also file comments about EOBR's and the hours of service changes, so I don't just complain, I try to have some impact on what people want to do to my industry. We can all go online and file comments about those things.

And how does a 59 year old man arrive at this conclusion without himself having some of these aforementioned attributes -"discontentment"-"Unhappiness" "regret"?

Personally for me, its not so much that i dislike my career. i couldnt work in an office, whse. or do manufacturing work under close supervision, thats not for me. however for folks like me that started our driving career back in the 70's and have seen this career regress like it has, there is plenty to whine about.

Well, other than some of the stupid #### OTR driver's do when they show up at our warehouse, I love where I am now and I make pretty good every week. As far as driving and my position I have nothing to whine about until the pay drops like the govement did the dollar. I'm happy!

I am a mechanic and i have learned in my small three years in the field. Drivers will vent. you know how many idiot non commercial drivers are out there the other day i watched a little mazda cut off a semi to exit. Insane. I love working on big rigs its what im good at. People are right it is not whining it venting but i also know Truckers like anything else back when america was America when it really was the land of the free, and everything was made here there was a lot more pride involved.

Well I have been driving big truck for 10 years and i can honestly say i love my job. I have been to every state but Mane, Vermont, in the 48 states. I have meet alot of friends and people out here. Its a great job and will continue to stay out on the open road and learn more and more out here. You have to have open mind to love your job, and that i do have. Good luck in making your decision to join the trucking industry. But Only you know what will make you happy.
