I agree, on debt free but keep using those cards...

I paid off the car a couple of years ago... and kept it, paid off the credit cards a few months ago... as the balance was coming down the credit report said "pays more than agreed" and my rating kept going higher...

checked the credit report about a week ago, shows zero balance, reads "no activity" and my rating had dropped 20 points !!! what a racket!!!!!!!

anyways... paid my bills on-line with the credit card, then paid the credit card with the debit card...lmao am expecting the rating to be back up next month... ya'see I are a good consumer... now reward my spending with a number.... fr'rigging 'idiots !!!

I'll be buying a truck in the next few years. An '86 Freightshaker with BCIII 350. I'll probably fix it up, park it in the yard and plant flowers around it. As soon as my step-brother is done with it, it's mine...

On topic, however, if you can save the down payment and get one through a bank, I would think the interest rate would be better.
Me, i"m going to do my damndest to stay away from credit cards and car payments.

I've been assed up in debt, it sucks. Dave is right on the money, literaly. I hate debt....it justs makes the rich richer and the poor broke. As for you not getting aproved....I did go to look at a truck (I have help thru family, only owe on the house/wifes car) and the finance guy said 6 months ago he would have no prorblem, but with the way banks are acting now he couldn't get anything worth a ####. (I told him if I did go that route it wasn't gonna be something crazy). I have a 700 credit score (after battling credit cards and finally getting out) ....and was putting down 20%....and still couldn't get anyting good done. So don't feel bad....the economy is working on biting everyone in the ###....But hey, don't worry our politicians went and ignored the majority of the people THEY WORK FOR and passed a expensive ######## bill our kids will pay for that hasn't fixe #### to bail out their rich friends and investments.
So anyway, I'll finance the majority thru family and not make another banker rich.
....conclusion? ....have patience, and you may not be the problem, the ###### up economy and banks may be....Oh, and "debt is dumb."

I hate debt, too. That is why I am 32 and I own 2 acres of land outright and my trailer (yeah, trailer trash, but no kids) and 2 cars. I've never had a credit card. My wife almost divorced me because I wouldn't buy a house last spring in the middle of the housing bubble. I was right on that one.

I don't really want the headache of owning my own truck, but it's the only path I see to 2 things: 1)getting plenty of miles, 2)deciding where I want to go, and 3)keeping more of the money when I do things right, like turn off the truck at night, not getting lost, not wrecking, etc.

The only other option is to lease as truck - and I have been told that that is a big no-no. Anybody wanna give me the postitive side of leasing I am all ears.

Anyway, I have gotten more confirmation today that I won't be getting a truck. selectrucks is telling me I don't have enough "points" on their calculation system, and arrow's 0 down program is for someone who has bought a truck before.

    Thanks,J

I would look at it as a blessing in disguise. It sucks now, but if things turn bad you can look back and smile.

Depends on how you look at it. I thought so at first to. But now I have a fresh overhaul, rear main seal, and new clutch. The deal has gotten better even if there was a lot of stress along the way.

I hear ya brother....I know it gets frustrating....but if things get bad, your wife can thank you that your not getting booted from that house she wanted, and you can thank yourself that they aren't repoing your truck. Which may be where I end up before this is all thru...I wish I could help with a good awnser, except you have done the smart thing so far....if you were assed up in debt- you'd be wondering how you were gonna pay the bills you already have thru the "slow" winter season and impending depression instead of worring about how to get a truck. It's funny how the greedy people that were thrown' around money to screw the masses on intrest are now scared to do anything. God Bless whatever way you go.
