Doing what i didn't want to do!
So here is my sad story:
Bought my truck in 1998 to work the oilfields well that was good for about 9 months and that went to crap, then signed up with a company out of cheyenne wy Did more sitting than work and made about half what i did in the oilfield, my boss there said i would make 150-200,000 gross well end up making 73,000 gross ya right went up with 23,000 in the bank and come back with about 15,000 in the bank real good huh,,, boss. Hope he reads this!
After putting 13,000 in an inframe this winter and setting on my ### waiting for work from him i'm broke. So now i have a truck plated and ready to run but i'm still sitting with no money to run on and to make matters worse the boss said he isnt providing a fuel card to run on this year . So then i contact him and tell him i can rent a refer for a week and run seed potatoes from idaho to nm and make him 800.00 for the week and me 3,000 just need his ok to run the 4 loads and ya know what he said ,,,, NO to much liability wont even cover his deductable if the worse should happen so there goes may ability to make a little fuel money to run on for him. What an idiot a hole!
And that makes me a bigger idiot for staying with the A hole to begin with.
So now i figure i have a truck ready to run that i just used my 2,000 tax return to plate and register and no work insight from this prick i'm leased on to , so i figure if i'm gunna go down in flames what's it matter if i loose more money!
So now i'm gunna rent a refer get my own authority and go out on limb and run my ### off with a friend teaming with me that is in the same boat she has no job either and my plan is to try an run my ### off using contacts here in idaho and getloaded load board i'm going to ask for 50% up front for all loads and pray ill get 40% upfront to run on, and hope and pray i can make a little money. Sound like a recipie for disaster? I know most will say yes but what else can i do?

Believe me when I say I feel your pain. The fact of the matter is you are probably doing the only thing that may allow you to survive. No one is going to look out for your best interest better than you. In fact it's a pretty sure bet that no one else gives a rats rear whether you make it or not. I have found myself in a similar position and have begun the same track as you. Best of luck.

One promising note is ive been playing around with the load boards during this winter and loads are out the roof right now example OR. and WA. about 6 weeks ago showed under a doz refer loads today between the 2 states there are 705 loads listed and about a 100 them list pay amounts and im finding this to be wide spread even texas and AZ loads have gone crazy, lets hope trucking is making a turn for the better!
And running load senerios im finding it easy to get 1.50 -2.00 per mile which was hard to do 1-2 months ago.bullhaulerswife and Saddle Tramp Thank this. -

produce will be running good shortly, Spuds and onions are good because they run all the time but in the produce season there is better rates

oh and to be honest. WIth produce, you'd be better off running it solo. THere is some team stuff but not as much as you might think unless you're hooked into a company that does alot of that. Worry about yourself right now, you don't need to be having to pay someone else. Sure you will run more with the extra person but not twice as much, you'd be doing good to run 40 to 50% more but yet your stuck paying them for Half

Her and i have talked about this and she realizes understands my position, things might be tight for awhile, the thing is she has refer expierence unlike myself. So i think it will be a win win situation for both of us (I hope) ! -
Good luck to you. Keep a positive attitude attitude, and work hard. There are lots of us out here in your same situation. I have run nearly a month in-state with-out a tag, no money to buy one. I figure to keep truck, insurance, and maintenance in that order, next week I will get tag. Just got to keep on trucking.

You need to find a carrier to lease on to, so that you can get back on level playing ground, you have no business getting your authority at this time.
