Don Imus is facing his first lawsuit from a player on the Rutgers Women's Basketball team for derogatory comments that cost him his job as a radio host in April, ABC News has learned.
Kia Vaughn, star center for the Rutgers Women's Basketball team, has filed a lawsuit against Imus for libel, slander and defamation -- the first civil suit to be filed against the former radio host. Vaughn is asking for monetary damages of an unspecified amount.
If the damages being sought is fair, and not a some crazy amount like $50 million or something, then I wish her the best of luck with her case.
What Imus said was wrong, but the only people he damaged and owed an apology to was the Rutgers Women's Basketball team. He did't owe a #### thing to AL Sharpton.

THIS is pure Bull#### right here!
He went and apoligized for this and this is what he gets.
I dont much care for IMUS but this is ridiculous!
He has said NOTHING that NO one else has said.
Dr. Phil himself has said...crank headed ho!
Make me rich and my feelings won't be hurt anymore, welcome to America in 2007.
What a joke.
Gee guys I disagree. What Imus said was wrong and it was embrassing and detrimental to the people that were really hurt by it.
These radio shock jocks need to learn a lesson. What they say gets to millions and millions of people. It's hurtful to those that are the object of this type of humor. This is a 20 year old girl, that did not ask to be put on display like this. Think if this was your daughter, would an apology be enough? It wouldn't be for me. I would want this selfish, arrogrant a-hole talk show host to pay for using my daughter as an object for his type of "humor".
People with the attitude and money Don Imus has don't care about your feelings. To him everything and everyone is open to his abuse. The best way to make a point and to teach Don Imus to respect others, is to hurt him where it hurts the most, and that's in his bank account.

If IMUS would have been a BLACK Talk-Show host, or some BLACK street-corner standing, crack slinging, no educating, run-of-the-mill street punk.....NO HARM, NO FOUL.
There is a double standard here.
Black Rappers say all sorts of nasty things about black women, and the women sing along with the lyricks. Some OLD WHITE FART says the same thing, and it's the "Amistad" all over again.
Teach Imus to respect them?? Get REAL, they don't even respect themselves.

Imus was doing what was SPECIFIED in his contract, to make shocking comments. It was wrong of him to be fired and not only should he not have apologized, he should have told Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson to go ..................
And it wasn't libel or slander, they clearly are nappy headed hos.
I understand your point, in fact I made this same point when it first happened. But it was about him getting fired and the way the race lords were manipulating the situation. I beleive it is a double standard for people like Al Sharpton and Hillary Clinton to critisize and call for the firing of Imus for what he said, when they support and accept contributions from black gangster rappers that make millions by degrading and humiliating black women every day by saying the same thing.
But this law suit is a different matter. Don Imus made the mistake singling out a traget in this case. He pointed at a group of black and white women and degraded them on TV and on the air waves. These women have a right to be protected. Now if his joke was a genral joke, not talking specifically about someone then I agree: No foul, No harm. But this is not the case. These shock jocks have a bad habit of attacking peoples character for the sake of personal gain, and that's what the defamation of character lawsuit is there to protect.
Exactly how was she harmed by this?
Her feelings got hurt? Well, we can't have that now can we?
Hey, suck it up Sister, the world is a harsh place. People will do and say things that upset us from time to time. The legal system was not put in place to keep you from getting your ego bruised.
If we were able to sue whoever we wanted, then I would sue the weatherman for being wrong, The butcher for telling me he was out of thick slice bacon.
Imus apologized, something I don't think he needed to do, and that should be the end of this charade.
This team just came off a very successful year, making it to the NCAA Women's championship. They lost, but they had every right to enjoy there accomplishment they achieved. Don Imus with those remarks that blasted to millions of people took that away from them. That may not mean anything to you, but to these girls that worked for that accomplishment it means everything. An apology was expected, the lawsuit is needed. I don't want her to walk away with $50 million dollars. I don't think Don Imus should have to pay his life out for this mistake, but he should be responsible to these girls. These girls are college atheletes, not politcal heads, not other talk show hosts, not entertainers that expect, and maybe deserve some of the pun they are put through. These girls were blind sided by this incident, and it did have a negative effect on their lives. That's a time they can never get back. If there was something stolen from you that was just as important as this time in their lives, you would be just as angry.
Don Imus is not responsible to these girls at all!
He went overboard in apologizing to them and this matter should have ended there.
THIS person doing the suing just wants money...That's all it is. All of a sudden this will make her feel better as she sits there all these months crying about what he said...BULL####! I don't believe any of it.
GEE...I feel I better write Hillary and a few others that are running for president and tell them that they better start suing over some of the #### they have been called which is far worse then what IMUS has said.
