I was at a truck stop the other day and took a shower and left my usual 2 dollar tip on the little tray in shower. As I was leaving, the cleaning lady came in and saw the tip and thanked me more than once. I asked her if other drivers tipped and she told me she had been working 6 hours and about 20 showers had been used and my tip was her first of the day. That is terrible. These people clean up after you have used the crapper, dirtied the shower and shaved. And the shower was probably free. The least you can do is leave these shower attendants 1 or 2 dollars. Don't be a stiff. If you don't know what that means, then you probably are one.

I'm a stiff! :) So you think these people deserve $13-15 hour for a bottom of the barrel uneducated job?? That's what you are proposing with thinking it's a tipping job. If that's the case, the cheap truck stop manager would pay them below minimum wage. Half the showers aren't cleaned, but a quick drying with a towel or even some mopped with piss water. I have tipped on occassion up to $5 for an exceptionally cleaned shower by someone that takes pride in their work. But for the most part, I don't.

They are not like waitresses that make below minimum wage and rely on tips. Sure it's nice for anyone to get more money. But economics is economics. Janitors don't make $30,000 a year.

You might think that shower is free, but you pay for it in more ways than one. That tip tray? It's a soap dish! :)

How many times have you been "hustled" for a tip?

You're from Vegas....so you should know what that means!

Excessive thanks is hustling.....and if you know the "business" in Vegas....why are you asking about the tip to the one you gave it to? That is worse than hustling tips!

the only "tip" I WILL GIVE is to the waiter or waitress at a restaurant, NO ONE ELSE.

as far as i am concerned, if a person gets a wage, NO MATTER how much of a wage, and DOES NOT DEPEND on tips, then they DO NOT GET TIPS....

then too, if a waiter or waitress DOES NOT give prompt service, that person WILL NOT get a tip either....

people that say we should "tip" others, ought to go and take a long walk off a short pier....

give it up, you ain't gonna win this.

this is probably the 3rd in a stupid series of people coming here proclaiming we should tip others. it's OLD SHEETY STUFF AND WE DO NOT NEED TO CLOG UP THESE BOARDS WITH IT.....:biggrin_25516:

    Where does it end?

I will give a great tip for good service in a restaurant, but that's about it. The guy at the truckwash was hinting to me one day that the driver before me gave them a great tip, how it was the first one of the day, yada, yada. The paperboy want's one, the mailman want's one, the maid in the motel, etc.

you were brought up right. Out of 20 people, you rewarded her properly. Its got a lot of how you were brought up. I have seen in some upscale hotels, there is a guy in the bath room that maintains it all day. I think you have seen this happen, and think it is the proper way to thank someone that has made your day by keeping the bathroom clean, so you dont have to take a shower in someone elses mess.

Next time I see a guy driving a street sweeper and if he did a good job I will be sure and stop and give him a $ TIP. Oh wait like the TS cleaning lady he is ALREADY paid to do his JOB.

I leave the shower as clean as I get it ( but wet ) I rinse out the sink after shaving, I flush the toilet , gather up the wet towels ecte.

i hate to disagree with you Wargames, but i feel i must.

i too have been "brought up right", but my parents never told me i had to tip people that did their jobs and got a wage. the only "tipping" i was ever taught was to a waiter or waitress who DEPEND on tips to bring up their wages from what their base pay is. hell, as a former mechanic, i never got tipped, as a former manager, i never got tipped, as a driver i never got tipped, as an instructor, i never got tipped..

this tipping NONSENSE will NOT be carried on by me...it ENDS with me, what others do, fine, but do not come here (to the o/p, not you wargames) and proclaim WE MUST TIP OTHERS for DOING THEIR JOBS IN THE FIRST PLACE...

know what...?? as i said EARLIER, this SHEET about tipping has been HERE ON THIS SITE at least 2 OTHERS TIMES, and it starts ALL SORTS OF SHEET WITH EVERYONE, WHILE THE O/P NEVER COMES BACK, SCREW HIM AND HIS THREAD...I'M OUT
