I always pick up my towels and put them in the sink and try not to leave a mess of any kind in the room.
I was recently at the T/A in Ontario, CA. and as I was leaving the guy that cleans the showers went into the one I was in to clean it...He leaned out and said "Sir, Thank's for leaving it clean."

It works that way....They think we are a bunch of uncouth slobs because so many of us are.

If the shower is exceptionally clean or the person at the fuel desk is actually nice I call the 800 number and compliment them. It goes to that store manager and corporate. I consider it as helping them build the "attaboys" for the eventual "What The Heck" that will happen.

No, there is nothing wrong with leaving a dollar. There is nothing wrong with not leaving a dollar.

More like I left a dollar and now everyone seen I did.

The worst job has to be the one that empties the trash cans and picks up the lot. You couldn't pay me enough to do that job.

I use my own towel and washcloth. I also don't believe in tipping for a wipedown. If thats the case, I am going to keep track every time I clean the truck windows and wipe the dash and turn that in with expenses. Will that be tax deductable?

I usually tip the shower attendants, not so much because they cleaned the shower before me, but that they have to clean up after me. And I don't really leave a mess--I always clean my whiskers out of the sink, I wipe down the counter, and I don't leave streaks in the toilet bowl. But that shower attendant might just have to wipe a stray pube or two off the floor, and I figure I ought to at least give 'em a dollar for that.

And by the way, most barbers and hair stylists don't get paid a wage. They actually have to pay a booth fee to the owner of the barbershop or hair salon to even be there, and that fee takes a substantial chunk of the register price for each haircut. Tips make up a sizable portion of their income.

What if your stylist is the owner of the salon, like mine is?

Wow. It seems like the majority of the people responding are real low lifes. Only tip a waitress? Why? SOME states pay below min wage but most states wait staff are paid min wage. I walk across truck stop parking lot in morning and see piss bottles just thrown on ground and some min wage employee has to pick it up. Just cause you make min wage means you shouldn't get a tip? Most of you are just reaffirming the fact that truck drivers are low lifes by your comments. Sometimes I'm embarrassed to say I drive a truck for a living. I wasn't suggesting you tip the street sweeper as someone commented above. But generally you are supposed to tip someone who performs a direct service to you. Maids, hair cutters, waitress, wash room attendant, mail man and garbage men at Christmas. Don't be a stiff.

I don't understand how you can be so quick to judge truckers as "low life's"!

It appears to me that you don't understand what a "tip" really is or how it is earned. Yes...EARNED! Let me help you attempt to understand this "tip" concept.

    1. A "tip" is a gratuity from one person/group to one individual. A thank you!

    2. A "tip" is earned by performing an extra service, or exceptional service above and beyond the regular job description.

    3. "Tipping" is a gamblers way of fending off bad luck....it is a superstitious persons bribe to maintain a run of good luck.

    4. "Tipping" has become an employers underhanded means of reducing a taxable payroll requirement. The amount of declared "tips" is not determinate of the employers FICA required deduction and matching amount. All taxes from "tip" income are borne by the employee. The agreed upon hourly wage, or salary is the basis for employer contribution to FICA and any other State tax.

Our statements of how we give/spend our money...that we earned...is our business....just as how you handle your financial dealings is yours and yours alone. There is no rule or law that requires giving a tip....as I said before...IT IS SOMETHING THAT NEEDS TO BE EARNED!

So, since we are "low life's" in your opinion.....I guess the non-tipping multi millionaires I used to deal (cards) to....when I only made $37.00 a shift as a dealer (both Reno and Vegas)....those wealthy people gambling and winning but not tipping are also "low life's"....

Did you know that a professional poker player rarely tips the dealers? Probably not....since they are also "low life's" in your eyes. Last years World Series of Poker Champion only tipped $3,000.00 to be split amongst 145 dealers.....not a very good tip for 3 months of work do you think?!

You have a lot to learn....about trucking/truckers and life in general!:biggrin_2558:

It seems like the majority of the people responding are real low lifes:biggrin_2559: How many times have you been tipped for doing the job you are paid to do.

Guess you never ran into a real TS lowlife in your 2 years of trucking, guy offering up his wife so they might get a ride , the I need $15 for GAS to get my sick child to the hospital , NO car / Child insight.
