Don't be that guy...

Essentially a . 1 what? You think it's akin to cracking a joke about the wreck?

It's really easy to find out what's going on and requires virtually no effort at all. Radio on mouth off. That simple.

But we don't have that. Instead, we have a bunch of geese honking and getting in each other's way.
Does everyone think they are the only person that wants to know what's going on so they need to ask? I don't even think they try to listen first. Just turn on the radio and imediately ask.

It's likely people going the other direction are warning about what's going on. People can know what's going on before they get there if they had thier radio on.

 

For whatever it's worth after only 1 year driving I have the following observation. In the "real" world out on the road, and especially in truck stops and customers lots, I've found the most helpful people I'd ever want to meet. Drivers have come up to me with suggestions, help backing, tips, really any kind of help. It's only when I go online that I find any rudeness or apathy. The internet anonymity makes cowards brave. I don't have a CB yet but the few times I've listened to one in trainers trucks I wasn't impressed and I suspect the same anonymity makes some truckers feel brave. The one area on the road that I would say it would be much better for other drivers to help each other is in the case of passing on the highway. As a group we really need to help each other out more by letting off the gas, just a little, while an obviously governed truck is trying to pass a slightly slower rig.

 

Then you have those that worry about what others do and let's it bother them.

• Wearing headset
• Wearing safety vest
• Safety vest on passenger seat
• Driving with hard hat on
• Asking what is going on
• Etc

 

Does knowing that save you any time?

 

Sometimes it's not worth it to keep the radio on when drivers are moaning into their mics, complaining about their ex-wives, playing with their toys, preaching, or just all around being miserable pricks.

 

I feel like I came into this industry in the wrong decade. I want to drive a 359 long nose with a 6x4 transmission, talk all day long with other drivers on the CB, help drivers stuck on the side of the road and give advice when asked for it (and have the answer to give).

The people on pages like Twisted Truckers, who would rather shoot video to get their 15 seconds of Facebook fame than get involved and help fix a problem, frustrate and anger me. It's a cancer within this industry and is only getting worse. What happened to the brotherhood?
