I go to the ground then back it up and inch- it's better for the next driver

Just be glad that most of you guys have the option to crank landing gear. Anything I've pulled up to this point has the pin style landing gear. The leg can be anywhere from 0"-3" off the ground. And if the trailer's too high or too low, you're SOL.

Let's not forget about how level the ground is when you drop it. Two days ago I had to extend the legs ALL the way and was just barely touching the ground. After pulling out I would have had to wait for my air to fully dump before I had a chance of getting underneath. Once the yard jockey moves it from the dock to the mt area it will be ridiculously high.

What I hated was the drivers who would keep lowering and lowering the landing gear after it's already touched the ground. one.Tyson yard guy turned me in all the time for not dollying all the way down because the trailer sat too high when he got under it..I told my dispatch when the yard jockies quit parking the trailers in pot holes I'll lower the trailers.Nothing else was said and I continued making him mad and loved it.

It's easier to go down than up.I've had to lift 48k in the trailer because of people like you who are too lazy to do it properly. Don't be that guy.

Just be happy you do drop and hook instead of giving away hours upon hours of free time live loading/unloading.

To all those who "leave a gap"...

Yup...I've had to get the 20-ton bottle jack out of my tool box and scrounge up some timbers to raise the trailer up enough to get backed under a frameless end dump w/ drop legs. Always a good time. These days, it's usually when I help out pulling a preloaded box...doesn't work too well when you can't even get your tires under the nose of the trailer.
