I think you're wrong. I think there will be exactly three less trucks on the road, well at least until they figure what fools they are.

What on earth does a "Teamster's picket line" look like?
And who said it was theirs?

I keep hearing this "anti-idling" law (Section 2485. Airborne Toxic Control Measure to Limit Diesel-Fueled Commercial Motor Vehicle Idling - I would have posted the link, but this forum won't allow me to) in California...here, from CARB website, are the exemptions:

Idling in California is allowed under these circumstances:

· A bus idling for up to 10 minutes prior to passenger boarding, or when passengers are onboard
· Idling of the main engine during sleeping or resting in a sleeper berth beyond 100 feet from any restricted area (homes and schools)
· Idling when the vehicle must remain motionless due to traffic conditions
· Idling when the vehicle is queuing that at all times is beyond 100 feet from any restricted area (homes and schools)
· Idling to verify safe operating condition
· Idling is mandatory for testing, servicing (cleaning of commercial vehicles/trucks/buses is not considered servicing), repairing, or diagnostic purposes
· Idling when positioning or providing power for equipment that is performing work
· Idling when operating defrosters, heaters, air conditioners, or other equipment to prevent a safety or health emergency (this one is a catch-all exemption...I could argue old frostbite was getting my toes)
· Idling by authorized emergency vehicles
· Idling of military tactical vehicles during periods of training

I'd say that if you can't find a way to "drive through" these exemptions, you ought to go into politics (no brains, no creativity required)...I drive into California twice a week and have never had anyone say anything about not idling...and I have idled for up to five hours next to the Truckee Scales, swarming with CHP and DOT.

If the vast majority of truckers in the country went on strike there would be incredible economics repercussions way before the country could possibly pump out new truckers, and to appeal to new truckers that haven't already chosen the profession, better incentives would have to be offered. You sure have a wimpy little lie down and get walked on attitude.

Are there any solutions in the realms of running a small portable ac while you sleep off the truck's batteries? Or perhaps a unit that charges itself from the cigarette lighter while you drive? I can see where this law is coming from, but there needs to be a solution for truckers not to bake in their trucks before they should pass anything like this.

Let's see, TruckingBum is a Trucker, but yet indicates "a Trucker couldn't
organize a file cabinet let alone an organized movement".......Wow.....Man..
......That's just sad.......maybe I just got out of school, and I won't start
training til next Monday, and I know I'm only 50yrs old with military and
predominantly a concrete construction background, married for 23yrs, and
I'm far from perfect, but........Man.........Wow.........
