Im sure somewhere this has been covered before, Im just not sure where. I actually need you guys' opinion, what would you do.
On the job application it asks you to list all traffic violations recieved in the last 3 years. (simple enough) 0
However in the state of Virginia, the points come off after 3 years, but they show up on your MVR for 5 years. So here is my quandary.
I have 3 speeding tickets that are 4 years old. (I know when the company pulls my MVR they are going to see them, but they only asked me for tickets I recieved in the last 3 years.
Does that mean they do not care about anything older? or does that mean most states MVR records only show the last 3 years for employment purposes and I just live in a jacked up state?
Anyway, I just want to see what your opinions of this are, and how would you document it.
Dont throttle me for askin'

You can pull a 3 year MVR for yourself. This way you know exactly what is on it. If the company that you are applying with asked for only 3 years, then that is what they will utilize. You should be just fine.
BTW, what company is it that we are talking about?
Thanks
Best of Luck!!!!Mastertech Thanks this. -
Chicken,
There are several Apps Ive looked at that ask for the last 3, some advertise no more than 3 in 3 but ask for 5. Cressler asks for 3, Epes asks for 3 and I think Arnold was the other one, those are the main carriers I was interested in.
Thanks, I just didn't want to say 0, then they pull my MVR and see 3, evan if they are 4 1/2 years old. I guess its a judgement call.
I have my MVR and know whats on it, but they asked for 3, not 4.
I also was involved in an accident last year in which I was hit from behind, No citation, no fine, I was not at fault, but it is on my MVR. (I have 2 letters from the insurance company stating I was not at fault) is that considered Non-preventable?
and what te heck is a Preventable ticket? I see that alot also.
I guess its been a while since Ive filled these apps out. I just want to be as truthful as I can without giving out more than they are asking for.
Anyway thanks for taking the time to reply.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Being rear ended, it is most likely non-preventable, but there are situations where it could go the other way. For example, if you knew he was tailgating you and you didn't increase your following distance so that you could stop slower, they might consider that non-preventable.
Simply, if there was anything at all possible that you could have done different that would have caused that accident to be prevented, then it is preventable. If there was nothing you could have done to avoid it, then it is a non-preventable.Ike Thanks this. -
The reason that accidents are listed on the MVR is to prevent insurance fraud and abuse. Believe it or not there are many, "ambulance chaser", type people, that actually get involved in what the Insurance Commission deems too many accidents. These individuals are tagged as abusers....
You should be just fine. If at all possible, furnish the 3 year MVR to the company that you are applying with.
Keep us posted as to your progress.
Best!!!!Ike Thanks this. -
Tanks to Davenjiep and Chicken for the clarification. Im going to say the tickets (speeding) were preventable and the accident was not, as I had no control of the vehicle that hit me.
As far as the companies are concerned they show up on my DAC, Again, my DAC may only show the 3 year MVR like you (Chicken) said.
so unless they ask for 5 years, They only get 3. I'll keep ya posted, but won't be submitting anything till late November - December. I need to wait till #1 Son has flown the coop. (Bootcamp) that also lets me start the new year off without the worry of being home over the holidays as well.
Thanks again, still in research mode.kickin chicken Thanks this. -
Good for you, Ike. Homework is the key to your success in any field.
Congratulations on your son's entry into the services. I wish you both the best!!!Ike Thanks this. -
There's no judgement call here, it's very simple. You answer the question truthfully. Have you had a ticket in the past 3 years, yes or no. If they call you in you tell them it was over 4 years ago and if they make a big deal then you don't want to work there anyway. If they can't take your word here then what's going to happen when it really counts?
Ike Thanks this.
