Why do so many guys sometimes dangerously park in dumb places at over filled major truck stops? I have never done that simply because there is always a mom and pop truck stop with plenty of parking usually somewhere nearby. Is a free shower that important? Usually better food at mom and pops to
Don't understand packed major truck stops

Shhh, did tell the secret...

You have to get in where you fit in at times. We've all had to "make a parking spot" at a Flying J when time wouldn't permit us to get to the mom & pop joints.

Once Sun goes down its not ever worth pulling into major chain truck stops.
All the solar powered drivers filled all them spaces long time ago.Flat Earth Trucker, Bean Jr., Last Call and 11 others Thank this. -
Not really all that difficult to figure out, with the current HOS, why bother driving at night? I did nearly 14 years driving for a major LTL, and 90+ % of those miles were at night. If I went back out on the road, no way would I drive overnight, been there done that.
JolliRoger and dboot01 Thank this. -
Unless you’re one of those wealthy truckers who can afford an $18.00 shower everyday..Bean Jr. Thanks this. -

For many, successful trip planning is getting parked at the nearest Loves at the end of their 11/14Last edited: Mar 23, 2024

The cold, hard truth: there really isn't enough safe, legal designated big rig parking in most places.
This is especially the case in &/or near urban areas....& "up" in the northeast.

Most of my route customers are only open during banker hours so I can't drive at night to make it to them for pickups of deliveries. Which is why I try to schedule a 'Love's or Pilot' truck stop on my route. Love's has 70% of their locations with under 80 parking spots. I'd like to shower daily only a few times going to a smaller Mom & Pops Truck stop but its been a hit or miss with the overall parking, food, showers and other amenities. After 6 pm 'Loves'is packed at 90% of the midwest locations especially Tuesdays to Thursdays. Its nearly impossible to find a spot. Pilot Travel stops are my reserves and then TA's as a final backup if im running after 7 pm.
Tb0n3, TurkeyCreekJackJohnson and hope not dumb twucker Thank this.
