Words to live by. I-70 eastbound from Summit County in CO on a Sunday afternoon in winter can have more traffic jams than NY City.

Thanks for all the responses. I started my break in Richfield, Utah. I will be heading on across I-70 Saturday starting at about 10am. Only have 5k in the box. 6 pallets in the nose of the 53' dry van.

Ask dispatch if you can run up 15 to 80.
Unfortunately this is what happens if your riding with a trainer falls on a non-winter month.
You can do it though! Take it slow man and if it gets bad park it till it clears up a little. Don't do anything you aren't comfortable with and don't follow some other dumb@$$ supertrucker who thinks they can make it!
Remember your license is bread and butter and NO load is worth risking it getting taken away! Not worth your life either!
Good luck man, drive safe and "know when to fold em'"!

Made it to mm163 in Colorado about 20 miles west of Vail. Supposed to keep snowing on into the night. Can't go any further without chains on.

Just wait it out until they clear up the roads a little. Make sure you aren't the first one out of the gate in the morning!

It's not as bad as you think, remember in low traction situations to be smooooth, don't make any quick moves, leave yourself lots of room, keep it slow but steady. Uphills are pretty easy, again no fast moves, roll on the throttle and don't stop if you don't have to. Down hill take it real easy especially if you are lite, this is one time where being heavy can actually help sometimes. If you start to slide you are going way to fast, but stay in front of it and learn. That being said you should not have that problem your first time out in it, if you are that fearless you shouldn't be driving in it at all.
If you have to toss iron there is a good thread in here about doing it, listen and learn. If you have cheap chinese chains run real slow and try to stay on the snow, they sometimes come apart when they get hot from running on dry pavement and do damage.
As far a I-70 vs I-80, are you people kidding? I-80 every time I can, I run into Denver at 78K and run out of Ft Collins at 77K, grunting up and down all them hills on the 70 is not my idea of fun, pretty but not fun.xlsdraw Thanks this. -
Like Chompi said don't be the first one out let the rds get a little cut in it, and let the dot work on em it'll help you.

All these drivers saying what a good job Colo. does at clearing the roads. WTF are you people smoking? Why do you think we $500/$1,000 fines for trucks not chaining up? So CDOT doesn't have to work hard. I've talked to many old timers who are amazed at how frequently the chain law is up compared to 20 or 30 yrs, and the storms were worse.
CDOT's plowing ability and ability to keep the roads clear has gotten worse in recent years, hell, Dec. 22nd, we had a snow storm hit the Denver area, they knew for a week it was coming. Instead of having full crews out on split shifts, they had skeleton crews out on the overnight and didn't call in extras til 4 am, which by then it was too late.
