My last A1C was 5.9. I also take 2 kinds of insulin for control. In the OPs case thankfully he can control his diabetes through diet. If a physician has made a diagnosis of diabetes it is what it is.

I agree!!!! If you can maintain control and keep those A1Cs in the 5.5 to 6.0 range through diet there is NO point in disclosing you are a diabetic.

It's all lifting weights. If I eat low carb but don't lift my A1C is up. If I lift I can eat pizza, ice creme, bread, anything and I'll be at 5.5.

Yeah, I'd get a 2nd opinion on that. Might not even have to disclose it.

    Rideandrepair and dibstr Thank this.

You're close to McKees Rock; about 4 miles.
If you can be accepted at Yellow cdl school, then work out of the McKees Rock terminal, you'll have a great career and can be local.

Absolutely, go with what the dr says for your health and well being but as long as he is not on insulin nothing special has to be done for his physical or license.

Shouldn’t they be checking blood sugar levels, before making a diagnosis? My daughters type 1, and uses insulin. I understand A1C, but seems a high blood sugar level, especially after a meal, that stays higher, instead of dropping like normal would be needed for a diagnosis.
