Absolutely!!!! I would advise ANYBODY to be careful about such a diagnosis based on anything but one or two tests. My VA endocrinologist and I went round and round over this back in 2017, the primary reason was he wanted to test me. And I went through it with the new person once the old one retired. This physician wanted to check to see if my body could still produce insulin. It can, but not anywhere near the levels I need, EVEN with Metformin.

One is an Oral Glucose Tolerance Test. You go into the test after an overnight fast. You then drink a sugary drink and they monitor your sugar levels.
A blood sugar level less than 140 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L) is normal. A reading of more than 200 mg/dL (11.1 mmol/L) after two hours indicates diabetes.
    A reading between 140 and 199 mg/dL (7.8 mmol/L and 11.0 mmol/L) indicates prediabetes.

The above test is the BEST test to diagnose diabetes. With this said, an A1C much over 6 means you need to be seen by a physician.

I just want to follow up on my post. I interviewed today and several things became apparent that I should have realized before hand. My plan to drive bus to get a cdl was pretty stupid. It's a class b cdl. I also would be taking the test in a bus. None of this would roll over well into trying to drive a truck or anything other than a bus.

The physical isn't the same as a DOT one. It's basically the same physical any job requires. So I could do it but then hit a snag when I try for a real DOT physical.

The pay is abysmal and while I sort of knew that going in I thought the main prize would be a cdl.

China I've looked at a couple of places you posted here but they are all about 2+ hours away. I do appreciate the help though. I live in Johnstown Pa. I usually just say east of Pittsburgh since no one ever knows where johnstown is.

If you get your medical card and a class A, that includes privileges for classes B and C also. Yes, you would need to take the road test again in a bus for the passenger/ school bus endorsements, but you would also be able to drive anything. I don't know how PA does the road test, but I presume if you already had the class A and just needed the endorsements you would not have to re-do pre-trip. There are some exempt (no fed med card needed) jobs that are available with a class B, as you have found out, but having the card opens up more jobs and it can't hurt your job prospects to have a valid medical card if you wind up doing exempt intrastate work.
