Anyone out there a current driver for DOT Foods? Looking for some information regarding the hiring process. Seems like a good gig.
Thanks in advance,
Kevin

You will probably learn something useful if you read pages 5 & 6 of the following recent Forum thread:
Not much time and only one shot at this. Please help.

You could do a LOT worse very easily. Most of the drivers posting in this forum ditching jobs left and right like the next freight company is magically better than the last one couldn't even whiff a job with DOT. If they contact you back after dropping an app go through the process and take the job. Don't expect them to get back to you ASAP but if they do that's even better it's the sooner you'll start.

Yeah, I just applied with them last Monday and a recruiter called me Friday and said she’d forward my application to the hiring manager. Then I got an email on Memorial weekend (Sunday at 7pm) saying thanks but no thanks. I can’t imagine anyone sent an email or a hiring manager actually viewed my application over Memorial weekend and replied on a Sunday night. Makes me wonder if they actually have an opening or not. Who knows. Just trying to see if anyone here works for them and actually knows if they need drivers at the moment. Thanks for the reply.

Good information there. Thanks.

Maybe you don't meet their minimum requirements? Or it could be whatever DC you are closest to doesn't need anybody for the time being. Where do you live and where did you apply to? I live about 20 miles from a brand new DC they opened up in late 2023 in Manchester, TN. Last I heard about a year ago they had 40 some driver positions filled there and are looking to be at around a 100 drivers or more. They're likely being choosy about who they hire. Who could blame them?ducnut and navypoppop Thank this.

Yeah. I retired as a Detective in ‘22. I got my CDL w/ doubles/triples/hazmat/tanker in February of 2024. Got a Teamster gig in March of 2024 and been driving a reefer class B since then. I took that job because it’s $30 an hour, home daily, full medical dental vision for the whole family at no cost to me other than $75 dues.
The money isn’t great but i get around 5k a month from my pension after taxes. I retired at 44 and I’m 47 now. The class B job is not really what I want to do but the schedule worked. I’m in the Los Angeles area. The DOT Foods job requirements were just a valid CDL with graduation from an approved CDL school. I applied for the Eastvale, Ca position. It’s about 30 miles from home.
Who knows. I just thought it was weird to receive the email on a Sunday night during a holiday weekend. Makes me think it was auto generated after the recruiter said I met all the requirements. -
Suggestion: up your game -- get some class "A" CDL experience from elsewhere -- then reapply with DOT Foods later....if you think that's what you still want.
Not to insult your intelligence -- but class "B" experience isn't what DOT will want or need.

No, I get it. I asked the recruiter specifically about the qualifications. She clarified no class A experience is required. She explained every driver new to DOT, experienced or not, runs with a trainer for a minimum of 4 weeks. Then she stated drivers with no class A experience may need up to 12 weeks with a trainer. I understand I am competing with guys who more than likely have class A experience but the job description clearly states it isn’t necessary. Who knows.
Thanks for the reply. I’ll probably give her a call and see if I can get some more information out of her. Take care,

Interesting that they have an eastvale yard now, I used to work for dot in SoCal about 12 years ago I was out of their paramount drop yard they only had 5 of out of SoCal the rest of the drivers were out of the Modesto hub. They were one of the best trucking companies I worked for people and management wise awesome culture and they took care of their drivers
ducnut Thanks this.
