I had my DOT physical today, and everything checked out quite well...sort of. Before I had the physical, I had to fill out a questionaire regarding sleeping habits. For example, it asked if I snored (I do lightly), am I tired when I wake up (who isn't), and things like that. Being the honest person that I am, I answered all questions truthfully not thinking I answered anything out of the ordinary. Like I said, everything on the actual physical (bp, vision, hearing, etc) was completely normal or better, yet I ended up with the dreaded 3 month medical card because I'm "at risk" for sleep apnea. Now, I am a pretty hefty fellow at 6'1" and 360lbs, and that is a huge factor in this risk, but I really don't think I have this condition. Really the only symptom I have is the snoring. And sure, I'm a little groggy when I first wake up, but once I start moving around I'm good. So it really ticks me off that before I can even attend training, I have to get a sleep study done, which will bankrupt me since I don't have health insurance (yet), and go through all this BS therefore pushing my start date back even further. I'm beginning to think I should've just checked "NO" for everything on that stupid questionaire and I'd be done with this. Anyone else experienced anything similar?

That's exactly what I do every time I get a new physical.
LIE THRU MY TEETH!
It sucks, it goes against one of my core beliefs but I am not eligible for disability (even though "the experts" say I shouldn't be driving a CMV,but I can drive any other vehicle???)too proud for welfare, too dumb to learn a new trade, and too old to start over!!!
My advice: find another doctor and lie your ### off before the standards become more strict and it will be too late.
Go ahead everyone. Flame away! Tell me what an awful person I am, how unsafe and reckless I am.
But according to the "experts", I should have hung up the keys over 12 years ago!
(Knock on wood) how many accidents have I been involved in in the last 12 years?
ZERO!!!
Such much for all the so called"experts"!SheepDog Thanks this. -
So far I've never even been asked about my sleep other than a general question during the physical exam. I agree that this thing is getting ridiculous, they are getting to the point only athletes will be capable of driving. I have heard that the sleep study itself is not all that expensive, most of the cost is the price of the c-pap machine. The driver in our "pod" that precedes me has been diagnosed with apnea and put on a c-pap machine. Since then he has been singing the praises of his treatment. He has told me how much better he feels and that he wakes up fresh and ready to roll.
Sleep apnea has never been shown to contribute to accidents, the truth is everyone connected with this push has financial incentives. I never trust anyone who can stand to make a profit from their "advice."SheepDog Thanks this. -
Preachers make profits from their "advice" however misconstrued that it is

The difference is that an honest preacher challenges his congregation to examine what he says against what the Bible says. If what I preach is backed by Scripture then you need to heed what is said, if not then it is merely my opinion.
You may want to save your attacks on people of faith for the religion forum, not one dealing with passing a physical to drive for a particular company. There is a time and place for everything "under the sun."SheepDog Thanks this. -

Sleep apnea will help get you a truck with an inverter or an apu to run your cpap. That's a plus for having documented sleep apnea.

Please keep your hateful narrow views out of a post to discuss trucking and go join a differnt forum if you feel the need to say things like that.

I have apena sleep and a CPAP will that make me ineligible to drive. 11 years ago I snored like a freight train and drove like a maniac now I have my snoring under control and need to start over will they black ball me?

I'm in the hometime fleet, the driver before me was diagnosed with apnea and has to use a cpap. He's still working for Roehl. The biggest issue is that you will need a truck with an apu. Companies are ramping up their hiring so this might be a good time for drivers with some physical issues.
