I tested my blood pressure 4 times today with 60 seconds rest in between and got 147/85, 122/82, 125/79, and 130/85. I always seem to fail 1 out of 4 tries as I need better than 140/90 to get accepted in the FFE drivers academy. My family thinks I'm wasting my time going, will they give you another shot if you fail the first time around? FFE says if I fail I have to go see a doctor first before they are able to accept me, but I'm not sure a doctor will prescribe blood pressure medicine for a 25 yr old with marginal readings.

Do not drink coffee or tea or anything with caffine before testing.
Your BP is borderline but see a doctor, to young to die!Advancer, CondoCruiser and Bella21 Thank this. -
Don't smoke cigarettes if you do for an hour or two before that morning. Don't drink coffee or anything caffeinated. I would even avoid eating a heavy breakfast or none at all to help keep your sugar down. Your first reading was probably high because you just got done walking. Relax as much as you can.

If you are borderline high the nurse will give you a few minutes to relax and try again.
I had one office do me 4 times and said I failed every time. In denial I protested it because it was a new young person. They had someone else do it with different cuffs and I passed. It turned out her BP cuffs were bad. Whew! -
Go to any Wal-Mart, cvs even grocery store go to vitamins and look for coq-10 little pricey but works also get hibiscus tea take both two to three weeks prior to physical also as stated above no cigs or caffeine before physical.
-
Also ask if you can lay down while they test your blood pressure. Believe me it helps
-
Okay good, I'm going to protest it if I don't pass the initial one. Then keep protesting until I pass. I'm 25 and weigh 140. I haven't smoked in 4 months, and I've been drinking beet juice.

Doesn't really look that bad to me, three of those readings will get you a CDL with no restrictions and your worse one is a one year licence. Most of the Doctors will take your reading several times before disqualifying you. You are probably just nervous, learn to do breathing exercise and monitor your blood pressure to see what makes it go up and down. I discovered mine went way down for a couple of hours after exercising so maybe something like that would work for you -- if not you can always slip the doctor $50 or something. Seriously, it is good to find out and keep on top of it, the average male truck driver lives to be 61 years old, which probably seems like a long time when you are your age but when you get to be 62 it seems really tragic. Most people can make blood pressure go down significantly with weight loss, if you are over weight that is another thing to try.

Also about 4 hours before take a couple aspirin. This opens your veins and lowers the pressure.

I was told to eat an aspirin the morning of you DOT physical. My blood pressure has always been fine but my recruiter said the extra stress of orientation and the new environment could get it jacked up.

I always flunk my first try because they always want to give me the blood pressure test right after giving me the hearing test. That stresses me out to no end. I lost a great deal of hearing in service and wear extremely high priced hearing aids ... like $7000/pair ... and even with these I still have problems hearing a rat pissing on cotton at 50 yards, much less a girl whispering ... I am stressed for days wondering if I will pass this year again. No I don't go bonkers or anything but it does raise my pressure the day of the test ... and right after giving me the hearing test, while I am trying desperately to chill out here come the BP test. I always fail and tell them what my problem is and they lay me down on a gurney, put a blanket over me, turn the lights out and give me the test again in about 10 minutes and I always pass it the second time around. Stress really has everything to do with blood pressure.
