My Community College class starts Aug 18. I took my drug test today, and I have a DOT physical scheduled for next Tuesday. It worried me when I just found out the doctor has to be on a certified registry for it to count. Luckily I found his name on there.

Anyway I have some questions. :biggrin_2558:

I'm worried about the DOT physical. The vision test scares me the most. I wear glasses, and when I take them off I can see,but blurriness is there. I also have astigmatism.

Do you get the medical card right then and there at the physical or does it have to be sent off for?

Is there any minimum height and weight you have to be? What is to short or tall for height, and what is to big or small for weight?

Can I go on and take my drivers test without the medical card? I know I technically can't get the permit without it,but can I just have my test in the system and just come back later with the card. I've been agonizing over it for months now by taking the practice test on this site over and over, and reading my manual over and over. I just want to get it done with.

Is there a requirement on how long you have to have had your Class R license for?

Just get the physical & that will answer your questions. If there's a problem, you can get it corrected and move on.

If you need to get the physical to get your permit in order to operate a commercial vehicle during class/school...then you have to get it. But I will tell you this right now; just about every "starter" company is going to require a physical of their own---so be prepared to take it twice.
    1).
Don't worry about it. Just tell them you wear glasses. This will be noted as a "restriction" on your license.
    2).
Don't worry about it. The form you fill YOUR information out on in the waiting room IS your long form, and the doctor finishes the form with HIS information and findings, and at the end you will get a copy PLUS a card.
    3).
Don't worry about it. I have seen 'Little People' (formally known as midgets) driving trucks, as well as people 7 feet tall. I have seen huge, fat, obese, grotesquely large people waddle out of trucks (though they are getting much tougher with neck width and sleep apnea and severe obesity), and I have seen anorexic, scrawny, tiny, Mt. Dew drinking, pull your pants up and change your shirt, toothless meth heads jump out of trucks as well. THEY must be passing physicals.
    4).
Don't worry about it. You will have the long form and card, if you pass the physical.
    5).
Don't worry about it. A Class R pertains to Passenger Vehicles only---as far as I know, there is no "requirement" that you even ever need to have a drivers license to test for a CDL. But most companies have age minimums due to insurance qualifications. And state/national laws require certain age limits to run Intrastate (in state) versus Interstate (crossing state lines).

You're too excited and nervous...calm down so you can pass the 'blood pressure' test (gotta be under 140/90), and like Chinatown said: Go take the physical.

Why don't you buy reading glasses at Walmart. They have like 5 different strengths.Try them on and look at something like 20 feet away and see if you can read the small letters.Vision dept is usually by the vitamins.Try reading the bottles and if you can see with those glasses then take them to the physical for the eye chart. You don't need prescription glasses. What is a class R license?

Class R might be his states version of a normal car/pickup/minivan/etc drivers license

As long as your vision is corrected to 20/20 or better, you'll be fine.
Do not worry about the physical, it's not that bad or hard.

Edit: They will issue you your medical card/certificate right there on the spot. The doc signs it and there it is.
