Hey there guys, I'm curious on how this Dot physical works for someone with type 1 diabetes works. I just started a route delivery job that doesn't require a CDL but a DOT physical. Will I still be able to pass the test and get a card? I'm from Texas also and don't really know where to go. Please help! Thanks

The trouble with keepin your mouth shut (and I'm a big proponent of keepin your mouth shut) is that if something were to happen accident-wise and the authorities dug into your background a bit, they'd find out the omission and you, my friend, would be swinging in the breeze.
And I'm almost positive (which means check for yourself) that if you are insulin dependent you cannot get a medical card.
I wish you luck.tucker, ASmallFleetDriver, UsualSuspect and 1 other person Thank this. -

You can be diabetic and don't have to take insulin. My dad just watched what he ate and tried not to let his blood sugar get above 100.scottlav46 Thanks this.

Well yah with type 2 diabetes you don't always need insulin but by definition type 1 diabetics have to take it cuz they body doesn't produce it. And the OP said he was type 1 in the initial post. But thanks for the education...pattyj Thanks this.
